Just wondering if the car which Jim Clark lost his life in had Gold Leaf livery or the Lotus Green.

Any other info on the race or Clark in 1968 in general (not that he got to race a lot in 68) would be appericated.,

I am pretty sure it had Gold Leaf livery even though it was an F2 car.

Not just severe head injuries, but I would think from the picture that both his legs were broken?

Did he die instantly?

Also, I hear comflicting reports. Some say he lost control in the rain, some say he blew a tire.

I'm sure Ray Bell will back me up on this one but the first appearance of the Gold Leaf livery was on the 2.5 litre Tasman Car in Australia. I believe it ran in green and yellow during the New Zealand leg and turned red and gold upon reaching Australia? or was it earlier during the NZ leg of the 68 Tasman series? In any case every event from at least the '68 Australian GP up to that date at Hockenheim would have been Gold Leaf. Clark's win in the South African GP, pre-Tasman in '68 was in the green / yellow scheme. His last national GP win - the '68 Australian, was the only one he won in Gold Leaf colours. It was IIRC a thrill packed desparate battle at Sandown with Chris Amon in the 2.5 F2 Ferrari.

Thanks Mark,
I covered this back on the "famous Amon" thread.
I believe that the Lotus was in the Gold Leaf livery from the first Tasman race in NZ.

Without looking, I think you'll find they ran at Levin with the traditional colour... then went to Gold Leaf for the NZ GP at Pukekohe.... Yes, I got back on it.. For confirmation, check the http://www.sergent.com.au site.
Well, there you go, I checked it and Levin came second... Pukekohe, Levin and then Wigram... it was at Wigram they first turned out in the Gold Leaf colours... I was right, it was the race after Levin, anyway.[p][smallfont][Edited by Ray Bell on 09-29-2000][/smallfont]

The Ferrari was a 2.4 and was designated the 246T.
