Thought about starting another thread but ill just slightly hijack gerrys.

Who else is going to the Melb GP?
I actually booked pretty late this year (1 week ago!) yet still found avail seating in the Prost stand.
Last year this was booked out a month or so before the race.

Im ready im ready.. biggrin.gif

Lucky you, Prost stand usually sells out the quickest.
It is probaly the best viewing you could get from any of the stands.

i find it amazing that albert park looks like a permanent racing facility, and even more amazing that they are able to completely take the place apart and turn it back into a picturesque parkland every year. Was the park designed to be a track? or was the track merely just designed around the park? The layout is more like a normal track than anything else.

F2008 with 2010 livery? confused.gif

I'll be there in GA, haven't been since '08 so am super excited! Dreaming of a certain Australian guy to win ;)

Albert Park has been the way it is for....forever, but it went through a redevelopment in 94/95 to cater for the Grand Prix.

They repaved and re-profiled some of the roads (to make them more suitable for racing) and also the pit lane building was constructed (as a permanent facility), and is used for indoor sports during the rest of the year.

Annual tradition, some pics of Albert Park preperation as we get closer to the start of the season.

Here are pics around the track taken earlier tonight (around 6pm). This is the same time the race will be on. Note that there was enough light even though it was a rainy, cloudy day. The sun did come out and that may be more of an issue down the main straight...

Are you sure this is 2010? From my understanding, ING had withdrawn altogether from F1 and I swear I heard that Quantas was the title sponser for the Grand Prix in Australia this year. However, there is porbably something I am missing, so feel free to correct me! wink.gif

Well seeing as that photo was posted in 2009, I think it probably isn't from 2010.wink.gif

Even if it was this year (and I havnt bothered to check), my experience is that the construction workers put up the constructions, and THEN the painters go and put this years advertising artwork on them. It could easily be last years advert, now ready to be repainted in time for the weekend.

Mind you guys, this thread was created in 2007!! Keep it going Gez! up.gif

just to add to that - the park has been around since the 1860s, the lake was created after that, and the park was actually first used for the australian grand prix in the 1950s. it fell into disrepair and the current track is very loosely based on the old circuit - i remember reading at the time the new track was being built that they were actually unearthing old sections of track that had been covered by grass. of course the circuit is a totally new surface, even where it follows the old one.

here is a diagram of the new and old circuit - note the slightly different starting point and anti-clockwise direction.

Drove through the circuit last night and there are quite a few changes - notably the pit entrance is very different. As a new pit facility for the V8s has been erected near the final corner on the main straight (next to the main F1 pit building bottom teams area) and the pit entrance has been widened and is kind of entered once the last corner is completed (for F1 cars) rather than before the final corner like previous. I could be wrong as it was dark but it certainly looks different. I'll be back with some day time pics soon (seeing that Aus GP is the first one again, there may be some renewed interest in seeing the circuit being set up).
