Peter Lague or Colin Youle in the leading Mini in the 1st shot?? Nearly missed it Brian Muir in the Camaro, NCR Paperchase................?

That would be excellent, not easy to explain, but you can upload photos to 800 pixels. Look forward to your contribution of photos, always nice to see some from personal collections.

Behind Vince Woodman's #45 Escort the 2nd Uniflo Esso car of Andy Rouse (?), the #3 Mustang is Frank Gardner's car.

BTW The #19 Broadspeed Escort [EVX 256H] has been running in the Thundersaloons in the 80's, powered by a 3.9L Rover V8. Fortunately it was brought back into its original form.

Very interesting, if anyone recognizes the track(s) (Silverstone?) the rest won't be too difficult.

It is Brands 1970. The second picture of the Escort with the stripes is the Duncan Hamilton racing Escort TC of John Hine.
The Mustang looks like Martin Birrane's car. Yes Yogi Muir in the Wiggins Teape Camaro.

The Imp is Jeremy Nightingales' car, originally bought for him by my dad from a little old lady in Tunbridge Wells who needed to upgrade her shopping car to an Avenger. Dad bought the car in 1969 and the photo shows Jeremy at the Motor Show 200 in October 1970.

Sorry about the useless information but mum still rants about the car occupying the garage for four months before Jeremy took it away for race preparation etc. This car was also driven by James Hunt on several occasions.

In 2nd spot: Erik Høyer [BMC Mini Cooper S] at the 1970 Guards International Motor Show 200
(I can't identify the Escort driver)

Car with Fujicolor sponsoring: Hans Deen [Alfa Romeo 1300 GTA Junior] at the 1973 Motor Show 200 (Simoniz Trophy)
The car in front is probably Bo Emanuelsson's Ford Escort RS 1600

Ah yes, soo easy once reminded Andy! I did not think that was Frank Gardner's car. John Hine, pretty useful in that car too. The drop around Paddock, fantastic!

The Escort in front of Hans Deen is Erik Høyer. Looks like the car he raced in Denmark 1972-73. Besides the glasses and open faced helmet matches those of in the Mini picture above.

I assumed you could be Dutch, considering the two Dutch drivers you photographed, hardly racing abroad.

As for my former post: Just scroll through the thread to find it, it starts with the 'Rapid Shave' Escort in the Brands paddock and contains six images.

Hi Racer60, some more names for you.

From the first album, picture 10, the Mini is Jon Mowatts, picture15, behind Brodie is possibly John Bloomfield and Les Nash in the Anglia (especially if the photo was taken in 1971) and picture 23 the Escort is Graham Birrell in the Wylies of Glasgow car.

Please keep them coming, they are great photos.

The unidentified Escort in the saloon pictures (car no. 26) is Lawrie Hickman.

Hello there, my grandad raced in the special saloons in a Mini against drivers such as Terry Mcnally and Gerry Taylor I am putting togethor all of his meetings and photos and matching them all into a folder. I wondered if any of you by any chance had any photos of him. He raced in the late 60s and 70s at places like Mallory, Silverstone and thruxton. Thanks for the help.

The roaring Fords, they all look great, but that Cortina just superb.......;)

Not quite sure but I think the Lotus Cortina was Brian Robinson as he was racing them around about that time & very quick. He was asked by Alan Mann racing to test drive for them but it never transpired Phil Bradford
Jagracer
I notice no mention of Brian Robinson from Newcastle who used to race Lotus Cortina's way back in the early to mid 60's with Tony Dean.
He was very quick (still is today)
In the early 70's I worked for Brian & he decided to try Saloon racing again with a group 1 3.0 Litre Capri which I built from scratch for him, using the 1300 capri bodyshell as it was lighter than the 3.0 Litre We had it acid dipped to make it even lighter & welded in strenghtening plates where we thought it might need it, of course this made it under weight so Brian always used to drive to the track in a road going Capri & if we saw the scrutineers weighing the Bonnett's or Tailgates with some spring scales we used to swap over these off the road car all highly illegal of course but everybody else was doing it in those days, we got up to all sorts of tricks to bend the rules a little I have a lovely picture of the car at the Spar 24 hour race, but I'm sorry to say my computer skills are not that good to put it on here. Sadly at that race it got written off at about 12-30 that night by the co driver who got caught out by the rain that was on the other side of the circuit when we were in 6th place going very well,( a problem that has caught out many professional drivers in the past at Spa) We never rebuilt it & it got sold off in bits

Thanks Phil Bradford (jagracer)

The CSCC are organising an invitation race at Mallory Park on August 29th 2011 for 70's & 80's Special Saloons, Super Saloons, Modsports, Thunder Saloons and Donnington GT's. I believe it's due to be announced in Autosport this week.

Baby Bertha, the Daf V8 and the ex Mick Hill Beetle are already entered. Other period cars are expected to join in.

It could be very good smile.gif

Hi Matthew I raced Special saloons at most of those tracks in the 60s and 70s , if you tell us what his name is , I'll have a look through some of my old programmes.

I'm looking into the regulations for Group 5 Special Touring Cars 1966-1969 inclusive, what modifications were allowed and the homologation process for new modifictions including cross flow heads on Minis etc. Is there a definative printed set of rules around on the internet, I've only been able to find anything pre and post this era.

Site has a habit of too frequently not being available. I think the RAC messed with the FIA version for 69 BSCC regarding heads.

Hi Mathew,
I've looked through all my programmes and results sheets ( 68-73) but couldn't find any mention of his name . However I'm not a programme collector ,only keeping some of then from race meetings I was in. You could get the Beaulieu library to do some research for you.
Good luck with your search

Brilliant thread everyone, thanks for starting it Twinny, I would love to copy all the photos posted here if I may as am collecting as any photos as possible to help me build my BTCC model collection. clap.gif

My own efforts at the time were worse than useless, I wish I had concentrated on shots like this one of Brian Muir at Brands Hatch Victory race.

rather than this one of Martin Birrane during practice.

blush.gif

David, I think the Imp in your photo is Brian Willcox rather than the Bevan car.

The book "The British Saloon Car Championship" is really the biography of George Bevan but has many unseen photos from the era and another video to look out for is "Drag on a summers day" which features Frank Gardner at the first Thruxton race of 1973 in his mighty Camaro as well as testing at a very rural looking Oulton Park.

A thousand thankyou's for this pic Twinny. clap.gif I worked for Terry for a time and worked on the pictured car, but don't have a photo of it. Not one. Was a spanner-man at the 73 Spa 24 hours with that car - car finished in eleventh (trophies only given down to tenth place frown.gif ). In the next pit was another yank car (Camaro or Mustang?) driven by a Brit who later did quite well in GPs.... James Hunt.

Wonderful memories of those days.

Thanks again.

Can I bring to the attention of everybody that reads and posts in this very interesting thread, the TNF Film Show is taking place on the 14th May in Hertfordshire and the special guests are Andy Rouse and Pete Hall. Andy the rapid driver of various Broadspeed cars and Pete Hall the Team Owner of the ICS cars that served Andy so very well. Others expected for the day are Mike Crabtree (Willment Escort) Chris Craft ( no introduction needed.but Broadspeed and Superspeed cars amongst others) and one Martin Thomas of Camaro fame. Please do send RTH an e-mail if you wish to attend this super day in a friendly and convivial atmosphere, lunch and refreshments provided, and the opportunity to meet other members of TNF. Hope some of you can attend! ( Sorry, blatant plug over !)
