Full Version: Dare I mention David Coulthard in TNF?

Unlike some here, I've always hung in there with the contemporary form of the sport, but it still appalls me in so many ways. Not least is the ghastly, disingenuous, corporate-speak practised by .... just about everybody in pit lane. Yuk!

Which makes the Q&A by David Coulthard at the Autosport International Show all the more refreshing. For those who are subscribers, click here.

I've never been a fan of any driver since my last pubescent zit disappeared several years before the last century ended but I must confess to having a soft spot for DC. Even dressed in Woking Grey, he seemed a far more forthright, thoughtful and honest fellow than most of his contemporaries.

Thank you, David, for a rare piece of charm in modern F1 and thanks, I suppose, to Herr Mateschitz for bringing this about.

Of course you can, in fact you just have.

I have always considered DC to be too nice a bloke to suceed in F1. Now as one of the 'elder' statesmen I think he speaks with authority and a great deal of common sense.

Like you I still have an interest in F1, for my sins, but the corporate management of every aspect is awful. It is refreshing to read DC's comments, but it's also a comment on F1 as to exactly how refreshingly rare they are.

Has anyone a picture of Coulthard in the Pacific F3000 in 1993?

I got all excited when I saw the title of this thread. Fame at last, I though...

Funny I was only thinking musing about how long DC has been around when I happened across him on a review of the 1990 BTCC, had completely forgotten his outing in a Cavalier GSI...

Even as a big fan of Felipe Massa , I found DC's comment about "beating three colors of sh!t " out him him very funny .

I'll miss him very much . Can it be considered a proper race without a Scotsman on the grid ?

Was never that much of a Coulthard fan and I grew weary of his annual "I can be World Champion" speeches...

However, I saw an interview with him in F1 Racing Magazine about a year(?) ago and I was very impressed. Couldn't put the magazine down. What an articulate fellow! If he writes a book, I'll certainly buy it.

I can envision a future for him somewhere within the FIA, but I fear he wouldn't play "politics" well enough to be successful there - which would be a shame.

Me, I respect the man for his... "I'm not doing this for paycheck...I believe I can still win attitude."

I never thought much of DC. Mainly because of his 'I'm going to be world champion speeches'. But since he went to Red Bull, he canged a lot for some reason. I'm an admirer now roflmao.gif, although I do think I won't miss his driving...

I saw somewhere recently that DC is being lined up by the BBC to commentate for them next season with Brundle moving to anchorman.
Tim Murray
Now that does sound rather promising. I do hope it's true.
Ross Stonefeld
They've already announced the anchorman, it's some guy who's already high profile in BBC Sport. I can't name him because I only follow motorracing, but I recognise his face.
