Or the Viagra forum! I just got the History of the Swiss Grand Prix book and I'm brushing up on my German.

What a wonderful idea! Although I do prefer to think of it as heritage rather than nostalgia...
Guess I'll have to dust off the leather helmet and stringback gloves.

P.S. Viagra? Speak for yourself, DD! smile.gif

"Don and the Dribblers" was also a nominee wink.gif

As I take my shoes off and step in the door, I chuckle at that one smile.gif

Don - It's by Cimarosti and is considered his mangnum opus. 600+ beautifully produced pages on this famous race.

I remamber seeing Emerson, Lake & Palmer when I was in Germany, though I'm afraid I drank too much swartze kat!

Congrats on your own forum Don Capps.

Wow, nice idea Don! Also it's nice to have you around.

Nikolas, you're next on my "must have forum" list. F1 humour perhaps? wink.gif

Keep me laughing, boy smile.gif

Yeah, Nik, especially if you'll treat us to more revisionist history lessons, ala "The Treu History of Canada" by Frans Bijkerk. Still brings a smile to this Cdns face!

Glad to see you didn't abandon ship completely, Don, after the juvenile swill you were subjected to a few weeks(?) ago...I genuinely appreciate the broad-minded perspective you and others who have been closely following GP/F1 for many more years than I bring to the table.

Being a historian by trade, I also like the fact that many posters are interested in REAL discussion and debate, rather than trying to outflame each other. Hopefully they've found a home here.

Best,

Andy

But is it true that 'Nostalgia's not what it used to be...'

From what I've read so far it seems like I might just make this my entry point to Atlas, rather than the 'kindergarten'.

Keep up the good work - with or without the assistance of Viagra.

Andy--"Treu History of Canada"... I must've missed that one frown.gif unless you were just joking wink.gif
I consider this whole forum to just be a giant learning experience for me--specifically, learning about the 40+ years of racing that I missed as a result of not being born yet smile.gif I expect this little corner of AF1 to be the only section free from insults for longer than a month wink.gif Biedaway, Don, the headline in my head reads "Senna and Prost Push Each Other Off Banking at Brooklands" redface.gif

So you want to put Senna and Prost on the track together! Identical McLaren M8A's (except for setup per driver's instructions) over 24 hours at Le Mans - scored at 2 hour intervals. Identical - again except for setup - Lotus 49 on the Nordschliefe. Today's F1 drivers are super specialists. No support races, no sports cars, no prototypes!

I wonder what the merchandisers would have made of J. Cannon. Shooting his car to put it out of its misery!

So another year of TNF has passed...

Faces and names have changed, but the basic spirit is still there.

Nicely done Ray, in capturing the spirit of nostalgia! clap.gif

Does anyone know if that Z represents the first ever post on TNF ?

Either way thanks 2 Don Capps for a wealth of knowledge and good virtual company up.gif

As a relatively new member, I'm also wondering. Can someone explain?

This was the first-ever thread on TNF...

But at one time Don was very cheesed off about things and he edited that initial post. Which is a shame.

IIRC Don attempted to remove all of his posts from the forum. I was never too sure exactly what his specific issues were or quite how long his reign as moderator was, and I'm not sure I really want to know as I fear his views are carried by a certain band of contemporary TNFers.......
I only met Don on one occasion, at the 2009 Silverstone Classic. Somewhat enigmatic and withdrawn, he seemed a pleasant enough chap, although I did fear he had gone somewhat 'bushy' after far too long in the deserts of Arabia in his strategic role as Major in the US Army.

I find that very offensive. I hope Don doesn't.

Up until about three or four years ago, I was certain that a computer was of no use to me whatsoever. My son, David would do all those 'computer things' for me, anyhow, my faithful fax machine was all I needed.

One day, David turned up with this thin plastic box, with a picture of an apple on it, and said "Here, use this". I felt that there was a silent "and stop bothering me" there somewhere! After a while, I got the hang of it, and discovered a whole new world.

Stumbling onto TNF, recently, has meant a great deal to me, finding 'old' and 'new' friends along the way. clap.gif

Cheers,

Greg

I didn't get to know Don very well, but having shared our Arabian experiences, I'd guess he would be amused as he has a sense of humour....... Roger....... smoking.gif

Don't know if he'd be too happy about your busting him down to Major, though smile.gif
