My face was a golden brown till the sun came out and made it red again tongue.gif

However I did have a couple of Stellas beforehand - I wonder how you knew that confused.gif

Another brilliant day of racing - the last race with the saloon cars was amazing eek.gif

Looks like your F5000 lads did OK, thank heavens it didn't rain this week end too.

Notice the 'T'Shirts? must have been at least 16C. lol.gif

A brilliant day - the F5000s were just awesome, but Simon is in a class of his own. The engine in that Chevron sounds so crisp and sharp, his gear changes audibly slicker and faster than the rest.
The NZ guys were really friendly and Marcus Pye was telling me that they were all totally blown away by the circuit, especially how quick Becketts is. If only we could persuade the kiwis to stay a month for Oulton!! Marcus himself had a great time in the Lola despite the breakages, enthusing about hitting 175 down hangar. Long live F5000!

One class lacking from the advertised programme were the F3s which I understand were told "there would not be a race for them" despite their inclusion in the pre race description of the Derek Bell series .
It is really a great shame as this dedicated bunch have often bolstered the sadly lacking competitor lists at many HSCC DB events.
ALL of their cars are genuine Classic F3s pre raced by the likes of Nelson Piquet ,Geoff Lees ,Nigel Mansell,Stephen South , Bev Bond etc. etc.
It would appear that 10 Euro Club F2 cars with subsidised entries are considered as more important than the cars which regularly support and add to the coffers of HSCC.
As regards the racing ,all super with (for me ) the Formula juniors actually doing battle with one another and finally ,a superb Historic Formula Ford which could have come straight from 1969 !
Fastest lap in FF was 2minutes dead which would disgrace many of the much more powerful cars at Silverstone.
Finally , once again , BRDCs James Beckett has done a fantastic job with the event run under the auspices of the HSCC.

Cracking Day on Sunday;

Arrived 09:30
Breakfast 10:05 after short trip round about one tenth of the paddock!

Unable to drag myself away from the circuit! tongue.gif

What a superb schedule of events -

loved the Denny Hulme Trophy race;
James Hunt Trophy a bit thin on the ground (needed a Connew!);
Silverstone International Trophy better field interesting race;
British Empire Trophy - went on a bit too long for some!;
John Cooper Trophy - wonderful;
Derek Bell Trophy - the best;
Legends Racing Trophy - what no Gary C! Despite the Nike-meister the event provided some close battles;
Jack Sears Trophy - ran the Derek Bell a close second.

Fantastic day which ended far too early! smile.gif love.gif

Check it out! cool.gif

For those who would like details of qualifying, grids and results check out the following site:

www.mstworld.com

All you have to do is click on HSCC and select Silverstone and it is ALL there!

Enjoy! smile.gif

Yes, I apologise for my bad manners but I was on a bit of a tight schedule & by the time Roger had told me who everyone was you were deep in conversation. But I did manage one of those magical Condor moments.

Comparing it to the old Coy's events, I must confess to being a bit disappointed with some aspects of the weekend (- now becoming nostalgic for nostalgia events). And despite the fact that the last race on the Sunday was obviously always going to be a cracker, the general public were leaving in their droves by early afternoon. However, I won't bellyache on, there were lots of really good bits.

Some photos from Sunday for Mr Fellowes

Hmmmm could someone let me know which link imageshack link I have to select to post thumbnails into the thread please.

I've had a couple of attempts, one which put the picture into the thread and now just links above.........HELP !!
David Holland
Good to see you all again on Saturday, very enjoyable day and good value at £15 on the door. Shame about the Connew Barry - a racing accident I suppose and hopefully repairable. You really should get a name-check in the photo, if only for your Dan Gurney T-Shirt.

Great assortment of cars, but I would've liked to have seen more drivers from those eras - like the old Coys meetings. Does that make me sound shallow and ungrateful or just star-struck?

Apologies for not telling you. I wasn't totally sure of my plans until quite late as was nearly in Japan with work on the Sunday.

BTW Brno's looking pretty likely though :-)

Mr Fogeye59 Sir, you are a gentleman & a scholar, thank you for the photos.

-as to posting photos there is a button (img) ‘top of the post reply page then the link you paste should end up starting with http:// and end with .jpg. Bira’s instructions on the ‘Posting Images’ sticky is quite detailed if you get stuck.

Indeed...

Even I made it - twice! biggrin.gif

(Lovely pics, mind)

I was with a group of people on Saturday and their schedule prevented me from getting to the trade area at 1.15, there was also a change of plans and we didn't get to Silverstone on Sunday. I will be at The Revival all three days so maybe we'll meet up then.

Went for a fag, I expect! (Er... cigarette, that is....)

It was great to meet one and all (even if getting me that close to Ted's stall was bound to test my wallet).

This was so much bigger than the previous weekend at Brands I was amazed. (First time I had been to either meeting).

The pictures show how easy it was to get close to the cars and what lovely cars they were too.

Some of the racing was so good it brings a smile to my face remembering it.

I thought the racing Saturday was better but Sunday's certainly had it's moments.

Car/driver that impressed me the most was no.17 1934 ERA A Type (well, that what is what it says in the program). up.gif

I'm really jealous of you all!
None of you has a cam-corder and who is good at editing to put some video clips online?
Barry Boor
Upload problems solved! (Flippin' firewalls!)

Here is the Gary C Nike AFTER its encounter with oil slick and wall...

condor
Looks a bit more expensive than your connew to fix sad.gif

Saw Gary Sunday...and IIRC it was just an unfortunate accident - pity as I was all set to cheer no 89 on :\
frogeye59
Thought some more Silverstone pictures might be appropriate.

Have to say that it was my first visit to the place since the old COY's festival, I expect the infield displays will catch on again, however the circuit never will be a patch on brands, oulton or even mallory for that matter. I've no doubt its interesting and challenging to the drivers but its very poor for spectating and spectacle in comparison.

PS Thanks to Andrew Fellowes and Stuart for their help with posting pictures, I think I was making it much more difficult than needs be.
Barry Boor
A lot of excellent pictures on this thread so far. I will now lower the quality with a few of mine....

I just LOVE the old Formula Junior and seeing as there are very few images of those cars on this thread so far, here are some...

1960 ALEXIS

1960 BRITANNIA

I won't insult you by naming this one...

WAINER

SAUTER-D.K.W

ELVA 200

The program said #27 is an Elva 100, but it don't look like one to me!

Duncan Rabagliati's Alexis and the reason why the above car cannot be another Elva!

...and finally, an interesting comment on an elderly mechanic's overalls. I hope he isn't referring to the young lady on the right!

Pils1989
Nice blue Ferrari single-seater!

biggrin.gif

Thank you for posting pictures, I'm curious to know more about the Britannia and the Sauter.

That little 'Italian Job' is a Lancia-Volpini.................here is another angle:

Paul M
Pils1989
That's a small Lancia engine! What size is this 4 cyl. one?
Macca
I've no idea, I'm afraid.

But here is another odd one, the Moorland:

Are those modern roll-loops mandatory on those cars in the UK or...? Some don't have one like that nice Moorland.
I really like those small single-seaters!
Macca

Seems very much an individual choice - but generally the rear-engined cars have belts and a strengthened/enlarged roll-hoop.

Does anyone have any background on this car, Graham Burrows' Cooper T43 in the HGPCA race? Like why it's painted like a Scarab?

Paul M
David McKinney
I believe its original owner/driver, in 1957, was a young man called L Reventlow
Bonde
Doesn't the Brittania look a bit like a Cooper that's been squeezed at both ends to get it to be a foot or so shorter? cat.gif

That Lancia V4 sure was a short engine - pretty neat the way the transmission acts as a spacer to push the eninfe forward. That car must've had a pretty low mass moment of inertia... cool.gif

ETA, thanks for sharing those photos, gentlemen...[more, please - not least obscure cars and F5000s - and any single seaters with their bodies off...]

The interesting thing with the Volpini engines was that their porting arrangement was altered and apparantly gave considerably more power
antonvrs
"The interesting thing with the Volpini engines was that their porting arrangement was altered and apparantly gave considerably more power"

You may be thinking of the Dagrada version of the Lancia Appia V4. The original Appia porting has a single carburettor on one side of the narrow angle vee-four and exhaust on the other side.
The Dagrada heads had a twin choke sidedraft Weber on each side of the head and two exhaust ports on each side.
Whether they really worked is questionable. Anybody ever seen one that actually ran? Power figures?

Anton
Paul Medici
My thanks to all for the fine photos - did anyone happen to snap one of Tony Smith's Ferrari?

I know this is somewhat off-topic, but I recall someone looking for pictures of the Bond Formula Junior. There are some of that and other interesting cars at this link:

Did anyone get any photos of the Lotus Elevens out there?
john ruston
Does the lack of opinions mean a lack of interest in pre war race?
David McKinney
Not from this quarter John
(though it doesn't seem right that a BMW special, no matter how well-driven, should beat Monza Alfas and Talbots - French and British. Not to mention Altas ;) )
john ruston
David.Its a real BMW built as a lightweight in 38 and extremely well driven.Yes its got a good engine but so has the Monza.The 328 at last years Le Mans was questionable.The Alta was on pole by 1.5sec but lost 600revs in the race but has beaten both Monza and BMW this year at Dijon and Oulton.
