Malcolm Guthrie's transporter was painted a dark silver grey with a plum coloured band round it.

The door halfway down opened to reveal a winch situated in the middle of the bed.

Believe his father was Sir Miles Guthrie, then chairman of B.O.A.C.

The mind boggles. Was Malcolm that heavy?

Cease boggling ! Maybe I should have said that in the floor was a device for pulling the cars up the ramp into the transporter.

Make of that what you will !

So 'wench' would be right then.

Monaco, or perhaps Pau? I'm guessing...

2) The Alpines are orange. Norisring 1970 ?
Renault Deutschland ?

Orange could maybe indicate Renault Netherlands? And the venue might be Hockenheim...

5) Hockenheim 500kms 1965 ?
Morris Oxford (1961) & Humber Hawk (1957) ?

That's not a Morris Oxford, old chap! More like a Vanden Plas Princess 3 Litre MkII.

7) Cento Sud in front, but where ?

That's annoying, because I feel I should recognise this venue... :\

Not sure if no.7 is Goodwood. Far too tidy for Goodwood in period with no scaffolding poles in sight. I think France - either Reims or Montlhery.

This is definitely Reims, picture taken from the back of the pits. We can see the top of the two grandstands facing the pits from the other side of the track.

Then is the FGP 1958 , they also had a big entry for their F2 race and then I put my money on Brian Naylor for the red/green 1 1/2 decker Bedford transporter. Also Centro Sud was there with 3 cars/drivers incl. Shelby (sitting on a wheel) and he was not there in 57! Aggreed?

Pic 1 , Maserati also used this outfit after the war , propably up to when they got their first proper "bus" in 53. And used open trucks of some kind as well.

Pic 2 Dieter Kern had an alpine team in 71/72 , this should be Hockenheim.

Pic 5 Agree it look more like a Vanden Plas. But what are the racers ? One looks like an AH Le Mans ?
clarko1230
Does someone know if the Mini Mooke seen in the photo(the pic was auctioned at EBay last year) was also used to carry GLTL Lotus 59 F2 cars?
More pics will be welcome clap.gif

Is there soemone who can tell me what was written on the front doors of the Gelo Racing Truck? It must be like Gelo Racing KG with address and phone numbers. Does someone has a more detailed photo?
rhegra
Hi 964 Targa, ...did you see that the license plate changed in the years from K- (Cologne) to BM- (Bergheim) (Post 866) - Loos KG to Gelo Sportswear?
Best regards, Christian

Hi rhegra, I am looking for the early times 1971/72 when the transporter was painted with the Ferrari 512M and the McLaren M8E. Do you know if this was the K- or BM- times? It was definitely not the Sportswear times, this was after Weisberg painting in 1978. I am also interested how Georg Loos did the McLaren emblem within his Gelo Racing Team German circle. It would be great a good photo from the Transporter from 1971/72 when he raced Ferrari 512 and McLaren M8.

wave.gif Guessing time (logical?). Having found many infos and pics on LM1962 transporters , none however on Lumsden/Sargent or Maurice Charles. Looking at some overviews from the books Renntransporter and The Mintex Man , I noticed a green bus (i have seen thet before) and a more or less 1 1/2 decker bus in blue in the paddock that year . Does that not fit well with privateer and colours for the above mentioned. Your guess ?
chuckbrandt
I just remembered some transporter pictures I have. These show how the cobras arrived at Lake Garnett for their showdown with the corvettes on July 7th, 1963.

A privateer cobra arrives pulled by a Pontiac Station wagon, tires on the roof rack.

The Shelby Team arrives with transporter, 3 cobras and a parts chaser pickup.

It looks like Dave MacDonald without a shirt.

I wonder if the cars had been tarped? It looks like they are each sitting on something that could be the end of a tarp you drive on and get secured to itself.

wave.gif Just wanted to update books with transporters and paddock shots (with transporters ), that I know and feel are very good:

Renntransporter (transl. Racetransporter) by Storz/Braun with German captions.

Reflections by A.Carter , reprint with lots of new info out now.

A mechanics tale (BRM) by Dick Salmon

Mintex Man (relined ed.) by G.Loveridge

Goodwood in the 60s by Tony Gardiner

It was how the Eddie Cheever Osella F2 was transported in 1979.

The location looks like Norisring (Fahrerlager am Dutzendteich). In 1970 there were only Interserie and Formula V races. 1971 were listed with # 41 Hans Schulze-Schwering and # 42 Dieter Kern. Both on Renault Alpine 1600 S for team DEUTSCHE RENAULT. Kern finished on 2nd and Schulze-Schwering on 8th place in class GT 1300 - 1600 ccm.
Does anybody have the color pics for my site www.norisringhistorie.de ?
Greetings!

Here's how Oscar Kovaleski would haul his ex-Penske ex-Wintersteen Cooper Monaco-Chevy to the various hillclimbs he competed in. '59 Chevy wagon and a trailer. Oscar would sell slot cars and car models out of the back of the wagon at races as part of his AutoWorld business.

wave.gif Fine pics Twinny and Chuck !

Anyone knows how Maurice Trintignant got his BRM f1 to the tracks in his "final" year ???????

If this helps, picture number 2 (car on trailer 776NPG) represents Jack Brabham's Lotus 24 arriving at Spa for the 1962 Belgian GP in June 62. It is not related with Rouen pic.
