I think this is definitely the same one. This is how it looked like before its "cosmetic" upgrade back in 2005:

If I have done this correctly below is a picture of Tony Dean's Bedford Val which he used in 1969 to transport his Porsche 908 Spyder around the Can Am circuit. It was quite an impressive site as there could not have been too many Bedford Vals running around the States. Photo was taken at Mid Ohio race course.

Hello,
Does anyone have photos of the Ferrari F1 transporters of the late 70's or early 80's
It does have decals with all production car logos (like 512BB, 308 and 308GT4)

now this is strange.

the photo above shows a uk plate which looks like 772 D??

now if this transporter is 772 DWW it could well be the one shown below, which currently resides in Sweden - this of course opens the question, how did it get from the uk to the usa to sweden?

im sure this picture has been on this thread before - i cant remember where i stole if from, but the coach has obviously had a hard life judging by the home made panels and what not, does look the same above the screen though, which is a grp moulded panel

i'll get my sherlock holmes hat and pipe

was The Beatles' 'Magical Mystery Tour' coach one of these??

clap.gif Having looked through my new book : BRM a mechanics tale by Dick Salmon (with Anthony Carter) I found a IMO a great book with very interesting text. A lot and another lot of pictures , AND many BRM transporters before the Marshall time. And not only BRM ! I found that before the Commer workshop and the 3 Austin transporters , BRM used and old Leyland for workshop and an old Thames lorry ! Superb value ,with good history and traveling pictures/sitouations all over!

This said I want to thank all for sharing, and wish you a happy new year!
Hubert Baradat
Good old ones ...

Hi there,

here are a few pics and a few questions for you all race transporters experts, which I am not at all !
In 1965, Team Lotus introduced a pair of new transporters aimed at carrying the new Lotus Ford Cortinas which were driven by such marvelous drivers as Jimmy Clark. Here is a picture of these transporters:

As far as I can see, these transporters have two different markings on the facia: "Thames" and in smaller characters "Marshall". This leads me to think they are based on a Ford Thames chassis (which one ?) bodied by Marshall of Cambridge, but I am not sure at all of all this. Altogether it sounds logical that the Cortinas were carried to races on a Ford truck. It must be noted that the second transporter (in the back of the picture) is different from the first one, as we can see that the side windows are different from the other one.
Note that the then current Formula One transporter (pictured a couple pages ahead in this thread) was a Bedford chassis curiously wearing an AEC Mercury windshield, and was not Ford based.

The Cortina transporters were used in this form at least until 1966, as this picture shows a S1 Europa (1966) before them:

I do have another (very poor) picture showing I think the same transporter in Gold Leaf colours, which means 1968 to 1970:

And to finish with this, I also have seen it in JPS colours, used for the 1972 Lotus 73 F3 as shown here:

Any further pics or information about these transporters is really welcome.

This is a shot of Stan Jones specially built transporter for his Maserati 250F at Fisherman's Bend, Melbourne, 1958. It was considered pretty impressive at the time, so much so that "Australian Motor Sports" reckoned that it would have started on scratch at Bathurst several years previously.
