And it also seems to be set in a gathering of the Metro Owners Club (with full membership turn-out).

I may have already posted this pic earlier in the thread, but on my Ford van website I have these 2 pics showing the Cooper support van with trailer:

Rick, I would say it is the same design of trailer, you can see where the trailer frame turns up to hold the race cars front wheel, the canvas is intresting and looking at it I would have to assume that the nose has been taken off the car so it will fit in, as the canvas dosn't seem to be pushed out by it.
so guess I need to get another fordson now (having just sold a 7V)

Vanwall Transporter article

There is a useful article by Andrew English on the old Vanwall Transporter, written up in last Saturday's Daily Telegraph, Motoring section, the truck now/still owned by Tony Merrick, so it is in good hands.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/main.j...9/mftrans29.xml

The picture on-line is better than the other one in the article.

From Mike Argetsinger's book on Walt Hansgen comes this one:

Rusty Hansgen, in England with his father for the Guards Interntional Trophy of 1965, tells of being amazed at the sight of a Lola T70 being towed on a trailer behind a Mini Cooper S, the trailer and its load being much larger than the tow car.

Another question in the transporter line comes with the knowledge that John Mecom's team took up to seven cars to race meetings in that year. And earlier, the Briggs Cunningham equipe had two large transporters as they went to race meetings with multiples of FJrs, sports cars and sedans.

Does anyone know what kind of transporters these were?
EDWARD FITZGERALD
Cunningham had custom made Flageol transporter(S) , see german transporter site for photo.

In 65 Cunningham stopped racing but used tractor/trailer combinations frim the early 50s till the end.The Fageol I believe was only there for 53/55.Bjørn

Following advise, and searching on old threads under Serenissima or the like I found out that they had an OM transporter. Thats before the 1963 Fiat ! .The picture is only from the front end , and not in full, but the build up looks very much like the Maserati France OM they used in 64! Regards Bjørn

Bruno:

I remember that transporter as I was there that year! I remember being so proud of being up in a tree at the old pit entrance taking Super 8 sound movies, only to find out that friend Tom Pumpelly was elsewhere having a chat with Gilles Villeneauve...kind of popped my bubble. They had raced together in Formula Atlantic. Tom even bought his Championship winning March to use for the SCCA
Championship at Road Atlanta.

So much for being clever...

Googling to find Lotus 16 stuff and found this.
I don't know enough about vans of the period but it should be a Ford Thames base.

Bruno, Bruno, Bruno...awesome! We were on a Page and Moy package. I can't remember the name of our hotel, but we could watch St. Devote from the roof and Tabac from our Balconey.
The F3 race had Prost, DeAngelis, Bobby Rahal, Howdy Holmes, etc. I remember Howdy stopping by our room during the weekend...what great times!

yes, a period which will be dreamed never again.

Macoran - see post 283 in this thread where the constructor of this replica (for Bill Friend's Lotus 12) describes the vehicle.

Talking of the Thames 400e, it is a pity that we cannot find any info on the maroon version, but with a third tag-axle on the back, on which Jackie Oliver used to carry his 26R around in 1964-ish. Anyone know how to contact Oliver? BRDC? Tom Walkinshaw?
