I'd have thought a Wildgoose might be enough for a man of his stature, probably a little bit more environmentally friendly too ?

Love THAT name Wildgoose. However way to modest for "The Bolt" .the camper only take up one car space it needs a few extensions to fit the F1 paddock today.

The thing that I noticed in that shot is the Bedford appears to have a single wheel on the rear instead of the usual dual wheels. It looks like this was done to give a lower floor for the bottom car to sit on. They have probably saved 6" height by this little trick.
To me it looks like a 20" wheel on the rear and a 16" on the front, maybe to give a better load rating on the rear because of the single wheel.
I like the winch to lower the top deck and the number of fuel tanks.

I'm guessing Ronald Bennett might be the Ron Bennett who has worked for Sid Taylor, Ensign etc. Giraffe is in regular contact with him.
If so it would mean Ron Bennett turns 80 today. Is it so?

Not nostalgic, but is this the largest race car transporter ever? An Australian road train for the Stone Brothers V8 Supercar team. Click on the thumbnail to get to the full-size image.

It is not a road train. It is "B-Double". You can't take a Road Train into cities or half of NSW.
Most of the V8 teams have B-Double transporters these days. Then they whinge about the costs of the cars getting too high.

I agree . This old J3 Beddy has only single wheels on the rear but it still retains the full floating axle and standard offset rim . That arrangement loads the bearings up a bit but they were a fairly stout rear axle and the load it is carrying is not great so you could get away with that.
I don't believe the rear rims are 20" however. The difference would be quite obvious. Not so here. Visually they appear to be the same as the fronts or very close to it. The sidewall of the tyre is greater so there is certainly a larger section tyre on the back rim. Also there were 17" rims available on Bedfords back then but I only ever saw those on the TK models (forward control). They could have fitted some of those here.

A question for Bjorn - possibly...
I have just read the story about the 917/20 Pink Pig in latest Motorsport.
Porsche Museum Boss and ex-works mechanic Klaus Bischoff mentions there, that the car could not fit into the Porsche race transporters, so they had to use an old military truck for the test weekend and the race.
Are there any photos anywhere about this unusual pairing of cars ? Which type / make of transporter was this ? Nothing more is written in the article.
Bischoff also tells, that the transporter is still with Porsche and - hopefully - might be reunited with the "Pig" again. He is currently fighting to get the funds for the 917 to have it running again.

Sorry Ralf , cant help much there , I remember 4-5 years ago to have read a few lines about it being too wide , so was transported on a drawbar low loader heavyweight trailer , which for those who dont understand my English would be a "tieflader anhaenger" ! I will try to do some renewed follow up .

Tieflader !
Would really be interesting to see that rather different Porsche works transporter. Especially, which type of Bundeswehr vehicle they did use.
But Bischoff obviously wants to do that rather soon, because he would like to reunite the old mechanics etc. with both cars at Weissach.
Would also great to have that transporter with car at Le Mans Classic !

Hello all,
I think this may be of interest;
revconTried but failed to post the photos on here! (Photos copyright LAT Photographic.)
The motorhome pictured is a Revcon 250 that was used by Graham Hill's Embassy-Hill team in the '73-'75 F1 seasons.
It surfaced about 12 months ago after seemingly years in the wilderness and after a bit of a chase I got my hands on it about 3 months ago and have started restoration.
It came with a strong 'Graham Hill' rumour which thanks to the marvellous archivists at LAT photographic is now proven.
If anybody out there has any anecdotes or photos they would be happy to share (particularly with Graham, Bette, Damon or the any of the drivers e.g Tony Brise, Guy Edwards, Alan Jones, Rolf Stommelen, Vern Schuppen, Graham Hill in shot) then you'd make my life.

I've added a couple of photos to the link above 'revcon' showing the coach as it is today (somebody got carried away with the nitromors in an attempt to make it look like an Airstream at some point) as well as an amusing photo of one of the reasons the engine wasn't running too well, this despite the character I bought it from assuring me he'd 'just driven it round Wales' and casually putting a couple of flyers from welsh tourist attractions in it for good measure - quality, we did chuckle.
I wouldn't mind getting the matching Bultaco Alpina pictured that I've seen footage Graham Hill riding round his back garden.

Hi all,
I would like to know if anybody has other pictures of this transporter.
It is a Renault "1000KG" type R2060 (I think), used by the French Ecurie Edger from Mr Edouard Germain in 1961, to race Lotuses 18 Junior for drivers Jo Schlesser, Bernard Boyer (who will became famous at Matra as technical director) and later Henri Grandsire. Cars, trailer and van where all painted in light blue color.
Any help is welcome.
How about transporters from our side of the pond?
Found this recently. It is the transporter for the Meister Brau Racing Team from 1959/60. They ran the Reventlow Scarabs in SCCA racing all over the USA.
Enjoy!

ZOOOM:
The Whiteman photos are interesting. He was apparently quite a "car guy" from the days when his band used big American sedans (Chryslers?) as transporters to get themselves and their instruments from one gig to another. In about 1966-67, I met him at an Amoco station in Lambertville, New Jersey. He was driving a huge white Pontiac station wagon that probably needed the "white gas" premium that Amoco then sold. We had a short but genial conversation about cars, etc., and that was it. He lived in New Hope, Pennsylvania, on the Delaware River. He was quite involved with SCCA and racing, though to my knowledge he never drove a race car himself. He died in December 1967, and I recall listening to a tribute to "Pops" on a Philadelphia radio station.

After reviewing the whole thread (quite a job!) I found a partial answer to my own post #2528 earlier on this page, about the Renault van used by Ecurie Edger from France for Jo Schlesser in the early sixties. It appears that this van (also known as a "Renault Goelette") has been sold to Rene Bonnet which then became the racing division of Matra.
A nice color picture of this very same van has been posted to the TNF Transporter forum at post #1481 (link here:

From "Mr Hudson's photos" - the transporter might not be particularly of interest, I think the Mercedes is a 300SL from 1952, but the most remarkable thing about the photo, IMHO, is Neubauer and his
enormous belly...
http://www.fotocommunity.de/pc/pc/mypics/1...isplay/16797838That collection of photos, largely from the Nurburgring over the years, was epic, but sadly most are now on 'private', although there are still a few gems on view. Not quite sure what 'private' means - whether if you registered with fotocommunity and contacted 'Mr Hudson' you could view them with his permission - but it would be well worth your while if you could. I trawled through all of them when they were on public view and they were amazing.

Seen (in the outside display) at Retromobile earlier this month. I wasn't able to find out anything specific about it, but no doubt someone here may know more.
