Cheers Twinny
Does anyone have photos of other BRM vehicles from the 1970's?? They ran five cars in 1972 alone ,.
They must have used more than one transporter vehicle ??? plus support vehicles.??
The Leyland could only handle three cars at most??
thanks

The transporter you've got models of was at Stoneleigh last year;
Here's one of it's sisters at the 1972 BritishGP...
...and a year later at Silverstone - that's Lauda getting changed in the cab!
Again at Silverstone the previous April...

This has spurred me to start a page on my 1/43rd scale model site for transporters.
The Russian models are available as kits or built and i should have some in stock soon.
Many other transporter kits can be sourced.

This
might be the same vehicle (after some roof mods?) at the launch of the P207...
...and there's a BRM Transit in the background here...
Somewhat frustratingly, I've just wasted an hour looking for a pic which shows a white 'Austin Westminster' van (I'm sure that isn't the correct name, but you get the idea of the model) also resplendent in a similar white BRM decor.
This is for you Mick, as I know Twinny knows the answer already !
The old 72 onwards Marlboro bus still exists and is currently undergoing a long and somewhat traumatic restoration.
It was rescued from somewhere in the Sheffield area about five years ago and actually driven down down the A1 to it's current location.
As it was but a shadow of it's former self, the driver was apparently concerned that he may well get pulled by the Police, thinking it was full of new age travellers!
Another bizarre feature was the addition of a reinforced concrete roof, intended to support the senior management. Apparently it did nothing for the handling of the transporter and I gather this particular mod won't be re-instated!

Twinny , probably an A55 van (Ithink) look forward to seeing that .
Here's a photo of a transporter used by Dick Hahn to carry the Ferrari TR61 (0794) to the Players Pacific two-heat race at Westwood in 1963. This car had finished first overall at Le Mans in 1961 with Gendebien and Hill at the wheel. Also at this race was Costin's Lister-Corvette (BHL 124) (listed in Doug Nye's recent Powered by Jaguar book) driven by Bill Stevens.
Jerry Grant came first in his Lotus-Buick followed by Ludwig Heimrath in a Porsche and Pete Lovely in a Lotus 23. The Testa Rosa driven by Stan Burnett came in sixth due to a failed piston that slowed the car.
Interestingly, Dick Hahn's daughter Cindi Lux is an active SCCA driver in the Touring class with her Dodge Viper using the number 78, the same number as her dad's TR61 some 40 + years ago.

The owner was keeping it, he has another he's restoring.
I thought Graeme Snape would have been interested, but apparently he has three spare gearboxes.
I just found a Tempo Matador sitting under trees on a farm down this way. It is the first Tempo Matador that I have ever seen! It is missing the motor and the drivers door and the floor has gone but it is on four wheels.
The gearbox is an interesting bit of gear, it looks a lot like a VW but it has a smooth case with no ribs. It would make a great transporter for a Formula Vee.

In the Charade book I bought at the show, there's a great pic of the two [previously illustrated] Marlboro BRM transporters sitting side-by-side each other in the Clermont Ferrand paddock during the 1972 GP meeting. It's taken from above, which will be a bonus for modellers I imagine!
I'll scan it tonight if I remember.

Thanks to all on this site,i am nuts about transporters and have had much pleasure here. Having been a follower of motorsport through magazines for 45 years I know most of racing drivers and cars but transporters is not so common (as well as support vehicles). Being rather new to the net I have searched for a long time , found some, also by looking for miniature models and has now collected quite some info on more than 100 teams, and not newer than 1969!.The latest I "discovered" was on an older video I had where there was a glimse af a Scuderia Serenissima ala Maserati/Ferrari Bartoletti(?)I would be glad to any user of this site and hope to see more pictures. At the moment I am not able to send pictures here or by e-mail , but that will come I guess (.My e-mail is

Further to the previous items on the ex Bill Friend, Team Lotus Thames 400E transporter, I am the person who built/restored the chassis-cab. The cargo body was apparently built by the same company that built the original, although I am not sure how accurately this was done, as it does not seem to tally closely with the drawing I was given, and contemporary descriptions of the machine.
The drawing hopefully reproduced below is all I was given to go on, together with the information that a 6 cylinder Zephyr engine had been fitted, along with an Alvis Silver Knight gearbox. The Zephyr engine is fitted to my effort, but Alvis gearboxes being thin on the ground, a later Zephyr 4-speed gearbox was used. The Zephyr diff was also used, and with 15 inch wheels made for decent cruising. It seemed to run nicely at 85 mph on the M25 when I delivered it.
I have since been given photocopies of a couple of period photos of 903PMT, showing two of its incarnations, (it was modified to a crew cab at one stage ), and copies of a couple of items of correspondence from ex Lotus employees, plus a copy of an item from "Lotus World" of December '86. The general theme seems to be that it was rather cobbled together, and pretty unreliable. Hopefully 882YPL has proved rather more reliable, even though it required panels from three doners to produce the one cab. At one stage, the only thing attaching the front panel to the back panel was the roof!! It may not be the smartest period transporter about, but it was built to a very restricted budget.
I am currently building another one, for myself, to move my own toys around (not racing cars). This will have a rear body more like the drawing, although otherwise should look similar, although certain other mods to make it more useable in todays traffic will be incorporated. Although I'm not a Lotus enthusiast, it will have the Team Lotus markings.

Sandy, many thanks for the info . have you ever come across any details/photos of the 400E which Jack Oliver used with his 26R in '64? It was the same as Bill Friend's, but had a third axle tagged on the back. It was maroon, with a logo of a small red rooster on the doors, referring no doubt to a hit song by by a well known and popular beat combo of the time. As I have raised this before, perhaps I should try to contact Jack Oliver.

ROY WINKLEMAN RACING PHOTO, ALAN REES ON LEFT,MOTORING NEWS RAN AN ARTICLE ON THE TEAM ABOUT 68/69 , IT MAY WELL IDENTIFY THE OTHERS I WILL TRY TO FIND.
Back in 1949 Cooper started making trailers designed to carry ther 500's/F3 cars. any one got any good pictures? as I have one to restore- hopefully before the Cooper 60th aniversary hill climb at Prescot in July.
as you can see the trailer (and car)needs work, and is fitted with the wrong axle originally the brakes, hubs and wheels were interchangable with the race car giving you a supply of spares at an event.
