Very kind of you Tarpon , I totally forgot this one , here the semitrailer is with a Scania 80 or 81 as tractor. The Ford I asked about was a 4x2 boxed lorry , still good picture.!

Greetings, fellow enthusiasts. Just stumbled upon this excellent forum, so this is my first post.
Thought I'd add a crude drawing to the wealth of information available here. Tony Dean's Can-Am Series transporter is a topic which has already been addressed by others, so I hope the experts in this matter
will correct the caption attached to my drawing.

The Gemeni car in the centre of the pic is different. In Oz we got them as 4 door sedans or 2 door coupes. That one is a 2 door sedan.

That's because the Gemeni car in the centre of the pic is an Opel Kadett C, depending on where you lived options included :-

4 dr saloon, 2 dr fast back and 2 door estate,
2 dr hatchack, I don't recall ever seeing one except in Vauxhall Drop nose Chevette guise.
and 2 dr saloon.

Which covered most of the bases in that particular market segment

I thought there were Van and Pick Up variants of the Kadett C too, but if there are they are conspicuous by there absence on Google wave.gif

Hi - I have just spent a very enjoyable half-hour looking through the images on this thread. Thank you so much for sharing them.

Stumbling across this thread was quite timely for me as I am considering rebuilding/restoring/whatever a suitable period means of transport for my current project - Jaguar's XJ13 (1966 Jaguar XJ13 - Building the Legend. Although I consider myself to be a fairly competent "spanner-man" I do know my limitations and the vast majority of the build will be carried out by specialist engineers. To keep myself busy in the meantime, I thought I would look at sourcing a suitable means of transport of the finished car - preferably something that needs work.

I am ashamed to admit that my knowledge of the kinds of car transporters that may have been available from the mid-1950s to the mid 1960s is practically non-existent! During its development the car was tested at venues such as MIRA and Silverstone and I imagine it was transported in some sort of closed container.

Does anyone have any suggestions of the kind of vehicle that may have been used by Jaguar at this time? Any pictures of their race transporters or other vehicles used for ferrying cars? I can then begin the task of sourcing a suitable vehicle.

Hi Neville , Jaguar was not known for having (race)car transporters , not even in the 50's. But they did have some ordinary vans and/or lorries then . And also later in the 80's, when tractor/semitrailer was used. But these were not actually Jaguar cars. Right in the middle 1966, your project , I have no evidence of any kind of transporters from Jaguar. My own belief would be an ordinary lorry with a box on , or even a Jag sedan with a simple open trailer and perhaps a small support van . I have not seen all Jaguar books , but my own books show no pictures with any hints.Perhaps a contact to Paul Skilleter could help you out here. Good luck with your project , I hope someone on the TNF can help out with a contact , or try Googling. Paul has written Jaguar books.

At Donington this weekend the VSCC is running its "end of season" See Red Meeting. David McLaughlin's FORCE organisation has arranged a demonstration each day of erecent F1 cars including three 1990s Benettons. This transporter was behind the pits but I regret that I did not take the opportunity of ascertaining whether it was a genuine ex-team one. here are the pics, anyway.

Great day yesterday in the Autumn sunshine. Not so today; it's pouring down. Although the ex-Ayrton Senna Toleman TG184 could re-create Monaco 1984 if they fix the turbocharger oil fire (I think that's what it was) from yesterday in time!

IIRC correctly the Works Jags were driven not transported to Le Mans, I wonder if the reason Jaguar are not known for having any transporters is because they saved themselves the expense and did not use them at all ? (Bad news for Bjoern !)

Bjorn, Don't forget that they had that special estate car bodied mk2 3.8litre saloon as a support car in one of the early 60s TdF events, when Bernard Consten was successful there. Photos are in MS somewhe IIRC. ISTR that the useable space in the rear section was limited by the room taken up by the rear suspension and diff etc.. Still, it was a shapely creation and must have gone very well.

A couple of transporters for Bjorn from yesterdays Somerset Grand Prix at the Oak Tree Arena near Burnham Without.

First a Citroen towing Ben Hurdmans twin engined NASA Class 10 Special.

And second a Ford Transit Transporter which takes Lloyd Morgans NASA Class 2 Ford Fiesta to and from the races.

Thanks guys!

In 1954 one of Jaguars support vehicles broke down en route to LM. So they for 1955 decided to fly cars and spares over for LM. As did they in 1956.
From 1954 and backwards racecars and spares were driven to LM.
Jaguar never had a racecar transporter.
The Bedford big van I know of was an M type used in the fifties , and at least one Bedford S lowsided lorry which was used in 1954 also for LM.

I guess Jaguar used private car transporters to take their production cars around , just like many or most other factories did. Some however used the private car transporters for races like Triumph in 1959/60/61 or Aston Martin in 1962/63 all for LM.

Hi All:

As a Team Lotus fan (I fell nowadays a bit confused because the row between Group Lotus and Lotus F1 Racing drunk.gif ), I am reseching about motorhome used by ESSEX TEAM LOTUS in 1981.
It was a state of the art vehicule with 2 floors.
Manufacturer was NEOPLAN in Germany
Engine was a 320 HP Mercedes V10 Diesel.
Model was NEOPLAN SKYLINER.
Does someone knows if this bus still exists confused.gif
I supposse that amend prior Lotus Transporters were restored
Besides that ,the motorhome was used during only 2 F1 seasons
In this tread was published a Tony Mathews (a TNF) cut away drawing, but photos are very scarce.......

A bit of history of this vehicle,Brabham had it built by a company in Cambridge on a AEC double deck bus chassis with a 12 litre non turbo engine it was then sold to Sid Taylor who had it converted by Pullman coachworks into a team motorhome/hospitality unit to which it attended various Grand Prix in the early 1980 s, I then bought it of Sid and used it to tow my F3 cars around in 1983/1984 and again for hospitality, I eventually sold it on to a HGV dealer in West Yorkshire and since lost track of the vehicle although they have been previous photographs on this thread both in Theodore livery and Brabham.

How many competition vehicles have been turned into towing vehicles ?

Here is one I was surprised to learn about, used to tow Sam Colliers Ferrari 166 after it had finished 10th at Le Mans. The give away is the triangular chrome tow bar cover under the bumper.

Wonder if anyone has any pics of it with the trailer and the Ferrari on the back ?
