On the WALLY WILLMOTT thread post 43 can be seen the Austin(?) which Cooper used for a decade from 1954. Any of you have a front view of it ?
I think this might be it on the right at the Nurburgring in 1958, from "BRM: A Mechanic's Tale" by Dick Salmon:

(I have a larger scan)
Paul M
(or I may be wrong and it could be the Dunlop van - the registration is TPA 230)

Also many thanks to Speedman.

I loved the original version of the Eifeland when it was launched shame it was a disaster it looked amazingly cool with it's central mirror and air intake ahead of the cockpit, over the course of the year I seem to remember it morphed back into a more conventional March that it was based on.

While I was trawling around the net last week on my mission for clues into the Zambian Racing scene I found these apologise if you have seen any before but there are certainly some I do not recall seeing on this page before :-
A wacky
AMC Pacer and Citroens one hauling a #64 XM across a desert does anyone know the story behind it ?
A cool
Cheetah Transporter.
The
'So What Speed Shop' hauler with a nice observation on it's hub caps :-)
Some cool
dragster haulers.
Finally some
kids haulers :-)

No, Bjorn, I only scrolled through the first 4 pages but it is all good archive stuff, if you like that sort of social history material. I will probably check through more pages over a period of time.

Half way down this blog there is a photo of Ronnie Peterson in the drivers seat of TDG 123 H the March Transporter at Zeltweg complete with HGV 'L' plates.
The caption reads....
This document is not devoid of a small historical side, as the orange helmet placed on the dashboard of the official March transporter belonged to a certain Niki Lauda, who would make his debut the next day in the Austrian GP.

they were used by BMC as mobile class rooms for techical training , I remember seing onr in Dublin in the 60s, there were a number of them and I think one or more were converted into transporters after BMC ownership .

I have not checked my files but that last shot looks familiar from an old DCN article on Transporters some years ago in one of the comics. "How they got there" or some such rings a bell. ISTR that Bjorn and I compared notes on it ages ago with some other shots.

Also known as "JAHIL" , thanks very much for the pictures.
I am a huge fan of the early VW Type 1 pickup & transporter derivatives. I think the Volkswagen Type 1 LWB Transporter is one of the slickest, (especially with a Porsche 550 Spyder on the back) but I am only aware of the Rennstall Bunker used in the States in the 60's. Premium Classics makes a nice 1/43 scale.

There must have been other LWB Race Transporters. Has anyone any information or pictures of them? Preferably with Porsches...
Cheers.

Hey Bjorn have you got any shots of the Maki transporter? From this it looks like a mini-artic
http://www.flickr.com/photos/cx500/3933194987/sizes/l/ Maybe a VW or Merc?
In 1974 when Maki F1 first came onto the scene in the UK I took a phone call from Japan and the following day I picked up three Japanese guys who had flown direct from Japan to Newcastle airport. They took one look at my transporter, exchanged it for a nice briefcase containing cash and drove it down South - one of them shewed me his UK HGV licence. I believe it finally ended up in Japan.
I had a road haulage fleet and unusually for a small team in those days we went racing in FF and F3 with a state of the art transporter!

It carried three cars and had workshop facillities with accomodation for six people in two three high bunk beds. It had its own electricity at 240 volts and air conditioning together with hot and cold running water. The cars were lifted in by Ratciffe tail lift.
This is what became the Maki F1 team transporter.

For those of us who like transporters, and who also hold the memory of Jenks in high regard, Hedingham Models
http://www.hedinghammodels-collectables.co.uk/have produced a fully liveried Austin K8 as a model of that used by DSJ and Eric Oliver. I understand that the accuracy of the livery is very high, as they had the benefit of archive material from the "right" sources.
In 1/43 size at £12.99 it is a bargain. No pictures on the website but their ad is on page 132 of this month's Motor Sport

Just a bit off topic; I have been to shows of various kinds where usually there are at most a half-dozen vintage trucks.
Are there any LARGE vintage truck shows in the U.S. I find these vehicles, especially those of the fifties exceptionally interesting.

Premium Classixxs have released another 1:43 Porsche transporter, this one based on the factory liveries of the 1980's Group C Porsche 956 / 962. The truck looks a bit bare and I'm wondering if its missing some Rothmans logos ?

Seen in the field above the trailer/caravan paddocks at the Festival of Speed .

Original uncropped larger file size shot available if anyone wants it. The paling fencing made other angles unattractive and it was surrounded by cars later, incl a very nice Flaminia variant.

Not "Rothmans" is missing, but "Essex". The factory used this paint scheme in the days of the 936 Essex. The year after "Essex" they took these logos away and used it as "Porsche Motorsport". But the model is a little bit far from the original, there lots of mistakes in that premium classics paint scheme.
Here you can see it with the remaining "....X" from Essex at Le Castellet

here without the X at Le Mans 1980

here the same car (S-M 2187) as Rothmans transporter
