Here's the Martini-Brabham truck in the Zolder paddock 1976. The girl is my sister in law.
Interesting here is the little caravan on the left : it's André Pilette's caravan that he used during his racing school sessions.

More likely somewhere along the Parramatta River parks, Doug... I can't think of anywhere at Dobroyd Point that looks like that... and there are a few spots at places like Haberfield that do. And they're nearer to Ashfield.
Who are the drivers? Not Bassingthwaite, surely?
eldougo
Aug 18 2005, 11:59
Dobroyd Pt is at Haberfield.and the driver are Barry Bassingthwaite and Dennis Cribbin.cira 1968

Am I getting confused?
Dobroyd Point is near Fairlight... but you're right, there's another Dobroyd there at Haberfield... but is it Dobroyd Point?
Have you got my Sydney street directory?

Rice was a company, in Melbourne I think, which specialised in building fully enclosed trailers for racing cars. All the top drivers had them... the Stillwells, the Davisons, all keeping up with the Joneses I guess.
I'll try to find more pictures if I can...
I should hang my head in shame over this. Dobroyd Head is where I spent about six hours the first time I ever took my first wife out!
Kidding her mother wasn't angry...

I don't remember that one, but found these on-topic:
The second one shows an anomaly. It is from
a collection; do you suppose the original was
similarly loaded? Is this a test?

In the late fifties a Dr. Love used a Ferrai 205Gt to tow his Ferrari 250 TR.
Once, the TR broke during the test and the Tdf was raced instead.
Photographs anyone from the US West Coast?

I spoke to some people of Hall & Hall today, on its way back from the Nuerburgring via Calais it faced an engine problem near Antwerp. Something to do with a broken piston. Now it is in a specialized bus garage in Antwerp with John Delane's Tyrrell 002 still in it....they are waiting for repair but at this moment it's not clear how long it will take.

There is a story of a GP-type car (probably a 250F) being flat-towed on a bar from Melbourne to Bathurst...
En route, the tow car failed, so the GP car was fired up and pushed the tow car for the rest of the trip. They were hooked together by a solid bar.
John Medley should know details of this.

Bib Stilwell's outfit, 1962 Australian Grand Prix, Caversham, Western Australia. One of a batch of colour slides given to me as a gift a couple of years ago. Stilwell's very pro rig impressed the eyeballs out of the Western Australians at the time.

Only just read this thread for the 1st time tonight so will add a couple of pictures I took at the Mini Cooper Registers national day at Beaulieu in June this year.
I believe this was one of the 1st times the BMC works transporter has been seen since it's recent restoration. I noticed that David Beard mentioned one on the 1st page of this thread but AFAIK it wasn't this one as this has just been restored.
Complete with Mini Coope S works rally car behind.

Hats off indeed to the creators of this stunning transporter.

Just slightly off-topic (it
does transport) :
E. Alan Moss's MG TD pickup and the Long Beach MG Club's 'chariot"
used to transport turn personnel. The MG club flag team rotated
workers between races. Cal Club flag team members were assigned
and didn't move during a day's activities, but may have had
positions changed from one day to the next.

Do you read that magazine regularly? I subscribe but prefer CVC as its more Commercial related, whereas HC has quite a bit of buses. Was hoping that CVC might do something about the glory days of F1 and F1 transporters in the the 70s/80s, with some F88/89s and Transconti's..

Hi there,
I'm new as a contributor.
Re' SM's Commer transporter.
I wonder if this is the same as a vehicle I've been interested in for about 40 years !
In about 1957 my father joined a chemical company in Warrington, he was a vehicle mechanic at the time. He retired form there in 1983 and passed away last year. I regret not asking him what he could remember of it.
Anyway, as a lad I used to go into the workshop with him in an evening if he was working on our car or supervising mechanics work. One 'van' always caught my eye and I was told that it used to be Stirling Moss's racing car transporter. I can't recall the make but the registration number lives with me continually; TNM 7. It was painted in the company's corporate colours (dark green) but I recall that it had styling strips along its flanks. Inside were obvious tracks/ramps up which wheels would have reasonably run. It was used at this time to transport 'carboys' of acid.
has anyuone got a picture of SM's tranposrter(s) fornm the 50's and 60's that i might recognise ?
I'd love to hear of / see anything relevant to this vehicle.
The van dissapeared as the company expanded and their fleet became more 'tanker' oriented carrying such as hydrogen peroxide (rocket fuel) and perborate (for washing powder).
I'll try and see if the historian of the company (for I think there is one) has anything of interest.
Fanstastic board everybody, keep up the good work in the nostalgia forum.

Surely they were using a fully-enclosed truck by then. Did you mean late sixties?

Maybe it wasn't a race car transporter, rather a new car delivery transporter?
