Any pics anywhere of the 1976 Elf F2 transporter used to transport Jabouille and Lecleres ELF's ? Apparantly it was impressive. I assume it was a Saviem or a Berliet?

Easy Bjørn up.gif but also coincidence. I looked at the ALM page you recommended because I'm always interested in model transporters. Later & just by chance my e-mail told me there were new items from Stephen (the ebay seller) He always has some great models & he always takes care to describe the reality of the original. If you send him a message, he'll certainly reply.

wave.gif Thanks for that info Mike , my line-up of Filipinetti transporters now getting close to complete ,I believe , which is my personal goal with these transporters !

wave.gif As some of you may know , I am very much to transporters , the real or in models! This thread is continouosly growing , and some of you might think its too much to go through. I know not all are interested in general , some are for a team , others just collect models at random , or their interest lies in special periods ! I am constantly working on getting a picture as a whole on as many teams as possible , especially up to 1970 (or 80). I also know some readers are not signed up at the TNF , so do not show on the contributors side. And here is my thougth :
If any of you are interested in some kind of common collection of infos , I am prepared to lead to this with my own files ! In no way I am trying to undermine this thread or the like , only I do try to nit the infos I find or get together , for some broader views! If any of you share my passion in full or partly , please mail me at :

Hi Tarpon
I have just received my first deliveries of the Bedford and unfortunately the back is not open.
Bjorn Kjer
wave.gif Dimensions needed : The Bedford O model ,the stubby nosed truck/bus quite popular as a transporter , used as a van (Luton) by Cooper and Ecurie Ecosse , as a 1 and a halfdecker bus by Gilby and Brian Naylor/JBW (the same ?) and, in the Duple bus version , the famous Lotus version (2) , but , also as the bustype with slanting windows (Fordman body ?) . Does any of you know about the wheelbase on a normal bus (29 passengers) ?? smoking.gif

I have problems to find pictures on Jo Bonniers transporter for his Lola in the early 70`s. It´s a Opel Blitz and There were two of them. I and a friend are going to rebuild Jo bonniers. Help?

In the season 1933 Caracciola and Chiron borrowed a Mercedes transporter from Alfred Neubauer as Mercedes didn´t race this season?

Chiron used the lorry when in Sweden for the first Swedish Summer Grand Prix in August 1933.

I´ve been searching for a picture of the lorry but haven´t had any luck. People have told me that it was a big lorru with the names Caracciola Chiron in big letters on the sides.
Bjorn Kjer
wave.gif The CC transporter was a big 2 ton lorry (!) put at CC 's disposal by Daimler Benz! Thats all I got! Sorry!

Regarding Bonnier mail me !

bjorn

heres a little tip for finding stuff out for free about transporters (or any cars) in the uk.

1) go to this site

www.askmid.com

you can enter a reg number (you have to pretend you own it......) and it will tell you if its insured, it will also tell you the make (i.e bedford)

2) then go to this site

www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/index.jsp

click on the tab 'vehicles'

then type in the reg number and use the pull down menu to select the type (this is why the first site is handy if you dont know the vehicle type, obviously the vehicle has to be insured for the 'askmid' site to work), if you know the vehicle type anyway you dont have to bother with the 'askmid' unless you want to know if its been driven around.

this will then tell you more details.

this is as much as you can find out for free!

the second site will keep details for any vehicle either taxed or sorned in the uk, if it doesnt appear its a fair guess that its either been scrapped or hasnt been on the road for many years.

as an example

stick my transporter reg into the askmid

'dhc851e'

and it will tell you its a 'bedford motorhome'

you can then go to the dvla

and stick

'dhc851e' and 'bedford' in and it will tell you.....

its taxed (01-07-2009)

first reg (01-05-1967)

cc (4927cc)

co2 emissions (not shown)

fuel type (heavy oil)

export marker (not applicable (so never exported)

vehicle status (licence not due (not gonna get fined!))

colour (blue)

type approval (null (what ever this means))

from the above you can deduce that is a vehicle thats taxed, insured and in current good health.

hope this helps mate

Hello Friends,

I'm interested by picture of the alfa racing transporter. During the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's .
if you can help me ?
Lee Nicolle
Some moderatly well knownAussie ones. The McCormack D5N Dodge was owned for some time by Mick Monterosso then went to James Rosenberg who used it for a short time carrying his VP supercar, still around I believe.
Garry Coopers Elfin canvas sided D series Ford I believe is still in Edwardstown!
Clem Smiths D5N Dodge is still being used by Clem and parked at the workshop, as is the Charger Sports Sedan
Moffats Ford F series is owned by David Bawden and reunited with the Mustang,
Ray Bell
Do you have any pics of these, Lee?

Or the Bob Jane AT4 and pantech, or the Malcolm Bailey outfit?
Bjorn Kjer
autodeltat33 : If you look at the fine new forum in France : www.autodiva.fr , you will under the Alfa and transporter threads find a couple of pictures.

Bjorn, have a look on the Racing Comments thread at "greates F1 photos ever", superb photo of NGH at Monaco in the BRM....WITH the teams transporter rounding the corner in the backdrop, so evocative, Monaco is a different place now!
Bjorn Kjer
Thanks for the hint sterling49 , I aggree on all your words , imagine the exchange in that scene to modern time and you would have "science fiction", I think. I also loved the Belgian 1965 GP start in colour ! Great scene seeing all cars , and the background.

Really nice pictures there, go have a look, all! http://forums.autosport.com/showthread.php...threadid=103216

As an aside, those first two links in the signature of poster Georg_Kuyumji sum up pretty well the difference between Touring/Stock Car racing and Open Wheelers: the final seven laps of the 2000 Michigan 500, and the final laps of a 2003 NASCAR race at Darlington. Both nail-biting finishes, but the NASCAR one includes pushing & ramming, and of course the two cars crash proper after the finish. Also, the commentary... rolleyes.gif For my part, I'm happy to continue to ignore taxi races! smile.gif

I stumbled across this pic today, showing the Cooper Car Co. Ltd. Ford 10cwt van complete with trailer and Cooper on the back, preparing to board a Silver City Bristol Freighter. I thought Transporter fans might be interested smile.gif :

Does anyone know what was the colour of Bob Anderson's VW pick-up that he used to carry his Brabham around Europe?

How interesting you've enquired because Bob's son Bruce is currently tring to locate his wonderful F1 transporter. I'm helping him aswell. "It was bought from a local builder in 1963, cream coloured then and covered in cement. A good clean, a respray in light blue and some modifications and here you have a vehicle fit to carry a state of the art Fomula 1 car to races across Europe and South Africa". Reg JFL 932, in 1959- a single cab split screen VW pickup.

What's your interest- has it been found?
richie
I and Bruce Anderson were interviewed 15/9/08 by
http://www.bbc.co.uk/threecounties/local_radio/ - for a chat about the search for Bob's VW pickup. Its a three hour breakfast programme with Stephen Rhodes with slots at 6.34am, 8.09am and 8.52, if anyone's interested in listening to it.

A reporter also visited the the former home of Bob's.

I wrote a letter to the Times and Citizen newspaper and the story was lifted by the BBC.

My friend, Larry Wheat, restored this 1955 Ford Ranchwagon. It was the Sumar Racing Team hauler. His father-in-law, John Blouch was chief mechanic on the team.
See the following link for his story: http://www.ranchwagon.com/story/Sumar.htm

I listened to that, good stuff, especially that one of Bob's mechs is still around there. The prog over-ran, so cut you off in mid-flow - I hope you mentioned the colour and reg. no. of the VW!

Even better, there's a further interview on the same BBC three counties radio station at 6ish and 8.15ish Thursday AM with Alan Brodie. Should be good.

This is Bob Anderson's VW pick up which is being sought. Can you help find it.

The DVLA website:-

doesn't have any record of a VW registered JFL 932, so I fear it may be no more...

Anyone know the details of the 'Maserati' truck in the background?

I could be miles out, but it reminds me of a mid/late 30s Dodge (UK not US). Whitney Straight I'm told had a Dodge transporter, so the Maserati reference could tie in perhaps?

Rick
Bjorn Kjer
Rob was quick to put up the question , and Rick to answer !
Here is what I have found : Straights transporter was, unless he had more than one, dark , and IMO not a Dodge but a Leyland Cub .The picture looks , allthough admitting resamblences (to Dodge K), more of a Fordson to me !
What do you say ?
PS. The 2 gents of course are Earl Howe and R.Mays , the venue the JCC.
oldclassiccar
yup there are similarities to pre-war Fordsons, including the E88W of the same period, flathead V8 powered iirc?

Interestingly I visited Bob's old home, the Old Mill House in Haynes last week and saw the "mini museum" referred to in the radio interview with the current owner Gerry Edmunds ( who's hill climb and sprint racer husband - Les was killed following an accident at Aintree in the mid 1990's).
Bjorn Kjer
Rick and others : I still believe its a Fordson allthough I am not convinced about the cooler arrangement/look. It does have a bit of a Commer look. Anyway Straight only raced in 34 and he definitely did not have that car ! I took a look at leif snellmans results and found the following Maseratis at that meeting :

Bira (Chula), A.Dobson , Wakefield and Hanson (Mrs.E Hall-Smith.)

The Bira colours it cannot be (too dark on picture), also he had a Ford transporter with a long bonnet! So 3 left ! According to Snellman , Hall-Smith/Hanson was blue ! Dobson white (?) and Wakefield nothing ! Any other suggestions ???

A question to the Anderson /DW Racing Vw : He (Bob) used that all years , but how did Paul Hawkins Lotus 25 get around to the tracks ??

Hi- I wonder if any one can help? I am restoring a Thames Van and want to copy the Team Lotus livery. I can't find any better pictures than the ones I have posted- does anyone have any better?
