Thanks a million up.gif
I take it 'CCC assigned' means it's not a factory number, but one allocated by the CCC?
Richard Neale
That's right.

We have a validation process a bit like FIA or CAMS where cars without a known chassis # can apply for a CCC Chassis Plate & Number. The idea is to get good descriptions of the car and its history and 'Nail' something on it so that it can be identified easily in the future, and also to 'weed out' replicas.

If the car is approved a number following the Factory ones with a suitable gap is issued.

Over the last 20 years some 40 have been issued. Of these, 4 are period Cooper based specials which have been registered so that they can't be passed off as something else in the future.

The latest Club NewsLetter is now up on our website www.coopercars.org Click on Archive.
BorsariG
I'll be there for the 15th or so year in a row.

And going to all the events I can.

If I get my TNF badge, I'll be wearing it !!

If you live close enough and don't go, you will regret it. It's about a 6 hr drive from the LA area, and I wouldn't miss it for the world !!!

see ya there
diego

I echo that sentiment! I've been going since 1992 (except for two years when I lived in Boston) and every year is fantastic.
R. J. Moss
I will be there. I have missed a few but started going when I lived in Monterey in 1977. There was NOBODY there that year, just an array of fantastic cars but no hordes yet. Pretty cool. But I don't begrudge Steve Earle the success; it is one of the truly Great Events in our world.
Option1
All things being well, I'll be there on the Sunday.

Neil
Ted Walker
I will be in attendance at Tony Singers Automobilia Show at Pacific Suites on the Tues and Wed and at the track from friday at Dave Lipskys (wine Country Motor Sport ) Booth.
diego
Less than three weeks to go! clap.gif

Surely there must be more TNF's with plans to attend?!!!!
Frank S
Talk me into it.

Admission is $???.
CONOSUR
Though I rarely spend time here at TNF, and post even less often, I intend to be there F/S/S.

The Monterey 3 litre Formula 1 race will feature a number of cars owned by American collector John Delane. He will drive the Tyrrell 001 still owned by the family and making its USA debut, his son Ryan will hopefully drive 002 and his ex Eiffeland March 721 has been kindly offered to Lorina Mclaughlin to race. She just might be the first lady to race a Formula 1 car in the USA...
Ray Bell
Now there's a challenge for David M Kane!

A close shave - OK, Sarah Fisher parading in a MP4/17 last year is not really "racing", but Lella Lombardi was very close to participating a US GP:
The Williams team disappeared completely when Lella Lombardi's car also had electrical failure, and her teammate Jacques Laffite mistook visor cleaning fluid for his eyedrops! He turned out to be okay, but was unable to race. Determined to become the first female driver at The Glen, Lombardi tried to get in the Frenchman's car, but she didn't fit.
- Rick Dikeman's report on the 1975 US GP per Forix.
David Force
Close...but no cigar.

Lella was a better driver than she received credit for in a pretty bad car most of the time. Supported by Count Gughi Zanon. Im new to this but if there has not been a thread about him there should be. Backer of Lella, Sir Francis, Alboretto, Johansson, Ronnie of course and others I wont be the first to mention here.

Sounds like there's a good 8-10 TNF'ers planning to be at Laguna Seca.

Any more people out there?
Mark Godfrey
I will be driving up on Thursday morning with author, William F. Nolan. (I published the new editions of his Oldfield & Phil Hill books.) Nolan has not been to the Monterey peninsula for a race since Ernie McAfee was killed at Pebble Beach! We have a photo shoot scheduled at Laguna Seca Raceway with Ford’s 999 and Wayne Petersen, a distant, albeit the closest living, relative of Barney Oldfield.

On Friday at the Concorso Italiano (Black Horse golf course, Seaside) we will be at Gary Doyle’s Gallery L'Automobile booth. Gary will have his “King of the Boards” Jimmy Murphy book as well as fine art. I believe Simon Moore will also be at Gary’s booth, and Peter Hearsey will be signing the event poster he created. Peter created the dust jacket painting for the Phil Hill book, so over the weekend I hope to get a book signed by Peter, Phil and Bill Nolan.

Nolan will be at the Wine Country Motor Sports booth on Saturday morning at Laguna Seca. Sunday we will be at Pebble Beach, then back to Laguna Seca.

If you are in Carmel-by-the-Sea, give us a shout at Tel: 831-624-5336 (Wayside Inn--better than it sounds), perhaps we can get together at the Hogs Breath.

Look for my holographic TNF badge, the one with flashing LEDs inlaid, somewhere in the shade. Or at the Terlingua Auto Racing Team booth.

hey guys! things are heating up on the monterey peninsula! today[tuesday] i stopped by mission san juan batistia at lunch to check out the "small" "west coast" bugatti rally...counted 52 cars running!

including;
many t-37-37a's
t-35's..a b c..and the prototype lyon 35
the replica t-45[pretty impressing]
a 57 atlantic...maybe leno's or koux'
a bunch of t-57's..normal,s,and sc jean bugatti coachwork
4 brecias[1 t-22,2 t13...one with twin mags mounted in the dash]
a cool t-46 cabrio
a knockout t-43 with custom coachwork
a gp with an anzani twincam...sound australian?
a few welcome anomolies..a totally cool maser cgs2000 drophead..and an aero morgan coupe!

due to personal issues[86 yo mom with deep venous thrombus PLUS COPD..i couldn't make the ralley...so i will practice fri and race sat as circumstances allow

the count for the gp race hovers around 50++ cars on the grid...

looks good for us bangers up the back hill and shoots...the wee ones can be ninble in the turns...but with the presence of some t-51's and the ocassional t-59..it should be a hoot!

is there any thing else happeningi don't have time to see...

again, stop by my pit[car # 16]and give the secret handshake.

Blame Lyndon Duckett...

He fitted this before WW2 and planned to instal a Wade supercharger, this being acquired for the purpose.

The car competed regularly, but never got the blower. It finished up in Bob King's hands at some time, probably in the sixties, and in the late nineties he finally fitted a supercharger, a Cozette off a Brescia.

At the time he had a big argument with the CAMS about whether or not he should do this, and he stated that one of his main reasons for fitting the supercharger was to avoid having to retain the bulge on the side of the engine compartment.

Nice car, was always well turned out...
Steve L
Sandy Leith's Car 12 looks interesting, too - what engine does this have?

A T37 with 3300cc and exhausts on the driver's side?!
dbw
really nothing more exoctic than a model A ford engine!!!!
Ray Bell
I understand they have more durable cranks than Bugattis... and cheaper ones as well...

This one isn't there?

Lovely car... and I know it's not there. Maybe one day?
diego
Let the weekend begin! clap.gif

Okay, just got back from Sunday at Laguna Seca and have 330+ images to post-process, but I thought I'd post two just to start. Had a great day btw, but Paula and I are a little sunburnt.

Anyway, heres a 1932 Alfa-Romeo Monza - Entrant/Drive Peter Giddings:

Now the next one may or may not be a particularly important car in terms of history. However, I firmly believe that every car at every race meet should have a pitcrew of this calibre:

Oh for those who can see the car, it's the 1979 Tyrell 009 - Bill Karges/Larry Ragland

Will be now busy slaving away post-processing images to put up on my site. You can wait a while (like a week or two smile.gif ) or you can visit http://www.motifwebs.com/gallery/ whenever you like to see progress.

Hope you like 'em. Just thought it was about time I contributed something to TNF other than failed attempts at humour.

Oh and I proudly wore badge #39 and stared and stared at chests all day, but didn't see another like it - badge that is - hmmm probably chest as well. Unfortunately, the pitcrew member pictured above didn't turn around before my wife dragged me away, so I couldn't see if she wore a badge or not.

Neil
Ray Bell
Is this the expression she had immediately prior to dragging you away?

It's obvious why she's working on an openwheeler rather than a tintop...

With tintops you need to make room to get underneath.

Sure hope you got a shot of the car next to the 300S, Neil...
Option1
Nah Ray, her expression was much, much fiercer than that. The bruise on my ribs can attest to that.wink.gif

Now for the bad news, I don't think I did get a pic of the car next to the Maserati. No excuses, I was just (as always) fixated on the fastshinyred car. Sorry.

Neil
Option1
Correction, I did (kinda sorta) get a picture of it. You can see more of it in the background to this other pic of the Maserati:

Unless of course you were talking about the Bentley - in which case I've just failed miserably.

Neil
Ray Bell
Can't really blame you for getting all wound up about the 300S... they are just a good looking car...

No, I didn't mean the Bentley at all... though there's more of it showing than the one I'd like to see. Anyway, it's good to see you had a nice day out... sore ribs notwithstanding...
mickj
Neil
Great pics of Monterey Historics. Pic no12 is either a Terry T10 or a Shelby Cobra built for Can Am races. Apparently both cars were designed by Len Terry.

"Blog" is a term referring to "web log", which is a way for an individual to publish whatever they please, as often as they like, directly to the Internet.

A fascinating example of a blog can be found at the following link -- a friend of mine is using a blog as a way to record the day-to-day trials of restoring his old house: Save the Birdhouse

How cool would it be if people restoring cars kept a daily blog complete with photos? Imagine the wealth of automotive design history which would be generated.

A blog

I know.

Worst, it's nearly F I V E MB.

Pretentious and thoughtless.

I haven't read it yet. Don't have time. Several hundred photos to sift through.

The weekend, my one-and-only at Laguna Seca and at a Historics, was marvelous. First among a dozen equal favorites: Castrol R and alcohol at combustible temperatures. Aaaaaahhhh.

I saw a Mr. Mozart, and a TNF Mozart, and David Willis.

Blue was clearly the color of the week, what with all that French tin . . .

I got hooked up with a small-bore modified team, and managed to get a few fingers dirty, in addition to using up a couple megabytes of Flash- and Secure Digital-memory, and innumerable batteries and charges.

I was and am thrilled and delighted.

Wow! Somebody paid $500,000 for a new Ford GT. For that price, you can almost get an original one, albeit one with no significant race history.
