More to come, slow but sure.

Nice pics Frank.

Continuing in the same vein, I've put up most of the stationary pics, just the Historic Grand Prix Cars to go and then the racing pics. Phew. Anyway, as before, you can see 'em at http://www.motifwebs.com/gallery/montereyhistorics Aside from a few pictures of stationary Bugattis there's numerous other odds and sods. Here's another pic of something to keep the poms interested smile.gif

And the only racing pic I've post-processed so far:

I can't understand excitment over that pic. What is so strange in seeing a female maintaining a Candy labelled machine?

(Disclaimer: this is not meant to be a chauvinist comment - simply it's a fact that women are probably operating Candy products more often...)

Ahh, but I doubt many of 'em have long blonde hair and are shaped quite as, ummmm, aerodynamically.wink.gif

You didn't go back to Neil's post about his wife being somewhat concerned about the attention he was giving the slim one, did you?

She's got her eyes on him!

GRIM Indeed !!!

Nah, Paula's not grim, she's lovely and very forgiving. She must be, she married me.

I'll let you into a little secret. When I took the shot I didn't realize the pitcrew member was even there nor that she had such a well-constructed chassis (honest Don, I'm keeping this on topic). It wasn't until the moment I pressed the shutter that I noticed her.

Nah, my missus didn't believe me either.

Two more Historic formula cars on pre-grid at Monterey 2003:

No. 59 - Scarab F1 1959
Chassis No. 001
Don Orosco

No. 2 - Lola Mk5A F-jr. 1963
Chassis No. BRJ 59
John Baird

I believe the car in question is the No. 91 1948 Nardi-Danese MM, Chassis No. 948-11, of Bruce McCaw. I, too failed to make it a centerpiece, although I tried: its sister car, No. 9 Nardi-Danese Corsica 1948, Chassis No. 948-5, of Dick DeLuna, is so similar that I made several shots of its slick profile at Turn 4, expecting that at least one would be the 91 car. No luck, all No. 9, No. 9, No. 9.

Of the many exotic love-objects present on this weekend, the Nardis had it all: lovely, poised bearing and looks, speed, sweet sound, erotic hot fluid scents. Humanuh humanuh humanuh.

Not another "badge" in sight apart from mine ???? How many members are there in the USA ???.Lets hope for better luck this weekend at Oulton.
GBORSARI
I was there and wore my TNF badge on Friday at the Concorso Italiano. I didn't see another badge there.

I forgot to wear it to Laguna Seca on Sat, but didnt' see any others either !!

Barry sent me 15 in the initial batch and they were all spoken for and immediately sent out (one from this batch went to Mexico). Plus I think Barry may have sent one or more direct to U.S. members. Barry has another batch on the way to me and at least four people have expressed a desire to have one - at least two people from this group plan to be at Goodwood by the way. So it is hard to give you an exact number but I would say something between 15 and 20 at this time.

Last night on another thread I postulated that we may achieve the "U.S. record" for the most TNF badges together in one place on October 4 when the IMRRC at Watkins Glen hosts an appearance by Doug Nye. That promises to be a memorable day and I would encourage everyone who can to try to be there.

On rereading Ted's post I realize he said "members" and didn't necessarily specify badge holders. As for a number of U.S.A. domiciled TNF regulars or irregulars or members (is this an official category?) I have no idea - but my guess would be way more than 100.
Frank S
From the posts in this thread and by my own eye, I count eleven members present at Laguna Seca.

I am certain there was one badge there (I could name a witness), and believe the testimony of one other member, since he named his badge by number.

Any other evidence?

#39 and I were there. We're both in this picture: (but I think ol' 39 might be hiding under my left wrist):

Here are some Monterey images I am posting for my good mate Vals - (BorsariG).

I make no comment on the content of the pictures....

There's another view of the Cunningham at http://www.motifwebs.com/gallery/montereyh...ningham_c4r_001 (wish I'd used the flash for that one) frown.gif

And Woody, I'll have some pics of the Coopers (and others) on the track up by the end of today.

Neil

Not a great pic, but just shows that the Cooper and the Scarab were gettin' it on (to lapse into the vernacular) as they went across the start/finish line:

Would have been a better pic if we'd caught them a split second later when they were out of the shadow of the bridge.

And yes it's Don Orosco in the Scarab and Rick Hall in the Cooper. Well done, I had to look it up in the program. smile.gif

Here are just a couple more of Vals' pictures:

Another racing image:

1968 Lotus 49B of Pete Lovely leads the Brabham BT26 of Robert L Baker

As mentioned earlier, all the images I have from Monterey can be seen at http://www.motifwebs.com/gallery/montereyhistorics They're all up now and I'm just in the process of captioning them and putting them into a more sensible order.

Enjoy.

Neil, how about posting image #106 on here to see if it can be identified?
Option1
Good idea Barry!

Given I forgot to take note of the number or to take an image with the number showing, I haven't been able to figure out what this car is:

Earlier in the thread, mickj suggested "... either a Terry T10 or a Shelby Cobra built for Can Am races. Apparently both cars were designed by Len Terry." Anyone got some more thoughts?

Neil

EDIT: Apologies to those who'd linked to pictures in this thread, particularly the pitcrew one, but I reordered the photos and broke them up into sub-albums so the earlier links are now broken.

Thanks to everyone for posting so many wonderful photos on this thread!

I hope to be posting some of my own photos in the next week.

I think I've finished with the BUGATTIS at Monterey photos.

The Terrier Mk 10 was the Shelby CanAm car. The picture of it in Terry's book looks fairly similar to the car at Monterey, but the windscreen and roll hoop are different. Not sure . . .

Some stunning pics of the Bugattis Frank and the Scarab lifting a wheel aint bad either. smile.gif

Thanks ray b and Tim Murray for additional thoughts on the unidentified car. I guess it'll remain a mystery for the moment because I can't find any other images online to confirm its identity.

Thanks Sven for your kind words on the images. You might be interested to know Canon are just about to release a new "cheaper" digital SLR to be known as the 300D - based on a EOS Rebel. However, I think it might require its own brand new lens which kind of defeats the purpose to my mind. Anyway you can find out more at http://www.dpreview.com

Group 2B
David McKinney
With reference to various earlier posts (and in the interests of historical accuracy) :
In spite of what the programme said, the Collier T51 Cooper was driven at Laguna Seca by Rob Hall. Rick was the nominated driver, but stayed in the UK because of pressure of business, and sent his son instead

Thanks David, I'll adjust the captions on the images on my site accordingly.

Frank ~ Did the Ambulance catch the Cooper Monaco ? lol.gif

May I use some of your pics with suitable creditation in the Cooper Car Club NewsLetter?

I'm trying to find a pic of the Cooper Coral and Steve Earle handing out the CCC Awards to Rod Jolley, Jimmi Domingoes etc ~~~ Can any one help?
Frank S
The ambulance was in a class by itself. I think it would have caught anything it set out after.

Please do use any pictures you need; I'm running out of Cooper material, however.

As a matter of further interest in Don Orosco, that image of the cloud of dust with a tiny part of a car off the track is another Orosco production, this time in a Lotus Fifteen.

Richard...

I know a man who knows a man who's bumped into a man who owns a Cooper and might allow you to use some of his photos of same.

The car involved is the last openwheeler that Philip T Hill ever raced, the car in which he turned a mere race into an unforgettable memory in supporting his team leader and helping him to win that race - the race involved being the greatest race ever seen on our shores.

It was also the last Cooper to win a major international championship, if I'm not mistaken, and that championship being second only in importance to the World Driver's Championship, and it just might be of interest to your readers.

Strange, you know... its owner and driver won the first Tasman Cup in it, yet the following year he only won one race in that series in its successor...

Thanks Frank ~ I'll let you know when I eventually get the NewsLetter up on the web site.
hhh
DBW, I didn't know you were a TNF member!
I was in the Bugatti race with the 43 (race nr 43); I'm sure you had as much fun as I did.
The grid was just staggering with all those GP cars.

Contrary to popular belief, the racing was very good and most cars were really driven fast.
For TNF I'll give some results:
1. Michael Gans, Germany, type 35B
2. Allan Rippon, UK, type 35B
3. Charles McCabe, US, type 59
4. Hubert fabri, Belgium, type 35C
5. Mike Preston, UK, type 35B
6. Brian Brunkhorst, US, type 35C
Class wins:
Bart Rosman, NL, type 37 (13th overall)
John Hugenholtz, NL, type 43 (16th overall)
