Hate to say it, but the new Aston looks awful. There's a saying if it looks right it probably is right. It don't look right to me. frown.gif
Captain Tightpants
Don't worry, I think it looks ugly, too. Like a submarine with wheels.
Pizdek
omg

ugly as last hole in hell... eek.gif

Any links?

Looks like a pretty standard, fast Le Mans car to me. I assumed we were talking about a road car that looked like a frog or something. Thanks for the link btw. smile.gif
Captain Tightpants
Compare it to the Audi and Peugeot cars, and the AMR-One does not look fast. It looks like a box.
Owen
I thought this was a reference to the Geneva motor show. drunk.gif
I'll get my coat.
Scotracer
A straight-six? That'll sound sweet.

Not as good as the V12 from last year though cry.gif
TF110
Reminds me of the old Panoz LMP car! It shares a lot of features with it! Not the prettiest thing is it? Did anyone see the Hybrid Peugeot? Now THAT looks good.
hughcdavies
Glad I'm not the only one. I agree the Peugeot is much more pleasing to the eye.
One
It look like crash prof tank to me, perhaps good for Le Mans.
Haribo
I think that the R15 is as ugly as sin, and yet that won Le Mans...
PayasYouRace
I think the previous one was one of the prettiest modern LMPs. This looks pretty standard. But I care more about how fast it is.
AlainProstX
I think this is the ugliest Aston Martin of all time.
pingu666
ugly :/ looks big too redface.gif
F.M.
Sideview looks quite odd:

It doesn't look too bad, it just looks fat....

Oh and I'm not liking the shark fins at all.
King Six
Doesn't look too bad, no idea why the fins are so regulation-looking though. I don't even know why they put it in NOW anyway, it's not like the past few seasons have been inundated with flips and instability, have they?
Group B
Did Aston actually build this thing, or just provide some cash and decals?

BRG
I don't think the colour scheme is doing it any favours. Get rid of all that black and revert to a purer pale blue and orange stripe Gulf livery and it would look far better, I reckon.
domhnall
Looks alright. It's the v12 sound i'll miss the most from the previous aston frown.gif

In-house design this time for both chassis and engine, with help from Cosworth on various powertrain bits&bobs (gearbox, engine management etc.).

So it's about as Aston as how F1 teams are Mercedes (or Honda, or any other Manufacturer for that matter)

OK, well that's not so bad. I really like to see what the companies themselves can do, not what an independent race car company can do when faxed a budget and a remit. I gave up watching BTCC years ago for the same reason; not only were the cars barely based on roadgoing versions, but many of them weren't even built by the companies in question.

I thought he meant in-house as in in-house for Prodrive. Seeing as they run the AMR company, and that's what the Autosport article was saying. I've confused myself now with all of this.

Kind of like how Mercedes is really Brackley F1.

Hmm, just read the article and it looks that way. Not really a product of Aston Martin. ohwell.gif

With the pitstop regulation change and the reduction in power, that car doesn't have a hope to keep pace with the closed top Audi's and Peugeots.

There's a good reason why the R18 has a roof.
cheapracer
When will they finally ban fins?
Jimisgod
Looks like it should be working at an airport from the sideview.

Considering they've only just mandated them, most probably quite a while roflmao.gif
midgrid
Not pretty, but it does not aggressive and effective, just like the Audi R18. Hopefully the new equivalence formula will close things up a bit between the petrol and diesel-fuelled cars.

David Richards is running Prodrive and is on the Aston Martin (the car company) board at the same time, so the connection between the two is stronger than that between a regular race team and a manufacturer.

This is the first year that the car's have fins. They are mandated by the ACO to make the cars less likely from flipping over.

Yep and with Prodrive being in my hometown of Banbury and Aston just being down the road in Gaydon its not a million miles away either. The facility in Gaydon is not geared for a racing outfit and with Prodrive no longer linked with Subaru, it made sense to make use of a facilty Richards owned. When you think they are both situated just off the M40 it makes sense to have them on two separate sites IMO.

It's weird that they chose to go with a Spyder design instead of a coupe with the new engine and aero regualtions. Audi even switched to a coupe because with smaller engines, aerodynamic efficiency will be even more important. The old Lola-Aston was the fastest on the straights among the 09-10 cars, which is what kept them in the running most of the time. Also, as Audi have said since the R15 came out, with the new pit rules limiting the amount of people working on the car, the spyder design which used to have a huge advantage in pit stop speed is now no faster than a coupe.
morrino
The mandatory shark fin doesn't help.
Marbles
Yet another reason to loath computational fluid dynamics and modern wind tunnels.wink.gif

It's great to see a legitimate, admittedly dark horse, gasoline entry. I'm eager to learn more about the powerplant--clearly it's sporting multiple stages or a sophisticated variable geometry impeller of some sort. Can't wait to hear its I-6 rasp, even if it is muffled by the forced induction.
Gemini
This car can be butt ugly but I will still cheer for them untill mu lungs give up. It's time someone really mess up with Audi and Peugeot. I don't say win in first year. But scare them till last hour. I admire modern diesels technology but I want petrol powered car to scream with high revs at the front of Lemans P1 class.
Disgrace
Christ Almighty that's hideous.

Good point, the black makes it look very sinister.

Yeah, this may be a great test of the notion that BRG or the Gulf livery can may anything look sharp.

Perhaps they're hoping to hire Monty.
