Hey all, the NASCAR circus sets up it's tent at the Motor City this weekend, with the Nationwide cars using their new car this weekend. The Cup guys go off Sunday afternoon, the Nationwide guys go Saturday afternoon, and the Truck guys go Saturday night--not sure if they're in Michigan as well.

Hi OfficeLinebacker.
Maybe not surprisingly this week, DanicaFan beat you to it.
http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?showtopic=134261I'll be here "for sure", whatever thread we end up in. Was great sharing the experience last week.

Okay, about 15 minutes ago I decided to check out the live practice times on the official website and to my horror Patrick Burton was the fastest with Patrick Montoya in second spot. Actually, everyone's first name was apparently Patrick. They have since fixed the issue however. Don't know if anyone noticed.

LOL! yeah Montoya was second, not sure if this is an impound race or if they're already doing the banzai runs and they'll do the race pace tomorrow.

That thread is just for the Nationwide race, I scan the front page for threads with "NASCAR" in the title, which that one doesn't. Maybe the mods can merge them, I don't know. It's fine with me if people discuss the Trucks and Cup race in here and the Nationwide race in there.
Besides, we all know we'll be here for the main event, which is on Sunday, Sunday, SUNDAY!

Knew NASCAR liked hyping Danica Patrick's appearances in Nationwide. Didn't know they'd gone so far . . .

What a lap by Johnson. Gordon way down... what's going on with him? Completely mystifying. Thought Burton would be higher than that.
Tire issues?

yeah it was interesting seeing that he was losing time on corner entry but picking it up on corner exit in turns 1 & 2
Then he lost a lot of time in turn 4 but still beat Biffle to the line,
Those EGR engines are making some power, and getting it down, too!
Realistically can he still make the chase?
He's had top5 pace for many races this year and if in the chase would be a force.
Montoya?I think he would need two Wins (180X2) Top 5, and a combo of results. Kinda of impossible, Really.

The Cup guys are supposed to be practicing already, but there were major delays with the nationwide cars getting through tech for qualifying, and qualy ran over. I think the N'wide cars are just about wrapped up and the Cup guys will take the track soon.
I caught a nice scene of Danica talking to Max Papis and Juan Pablo Montoya, both seemed very eager to help.

After 26 races, top 12 drivers in the point standings enters the "Chase for the Sprint Cup". The points from "regular season" are then reset (except for the wins before which get you 10 bonus starting points) and the driver from those twelve with most points after 10 race "chase" is Sprint Cup champion.

Tab just asked Monty the procedure for entering and exiting the pits (blend line rule--the rule PSP broke yesterday).
Monty thinks that when the engine is cold the tach bounces around a lot but he has "four yellows"

The pit window for today's race is 40-45 laps. I'd expect to see cars pitting in the high 30s to correct handling issues. I think all teams will have to make four pit stops no matter what.

We are halfway through a gas run. Montoya comfortably in 8th. If it stays green and he can pit from within the top 10 he'll be fine.
