Can you tell/link us a bit more about the production of this car and tell us how you managed to get it accepted so early for the Ring 24h?

We got the go ahead from the Ring when we were accepted into EXP1 for 2011.

Happy to answer any questions.

Thank you for posting this, lovely car and definitely a project I'll follow with great interest. Question, though- The P4/5 road car was obviously based on the Enzo chassis, but the linked articles state that this competizione car is based on a 430 GT2/Scuderia combination. Why not the Enzo? Too expensive or too rare to be able to use as a donor? The MC12 GT car proved that it's a successful base for a racer... Another thing that this means to me is that the car will abandon the lovely sounding V12 that the MC12 and Enzo shared in favor of the GT2 V8 from the 430. Shame, there's no way the car can be made to race with a 12? Also, what sort of drivers are you guys looking at hiring? I hope it's an all-pro team that will give the car a shot at an overall win, as Glickenhaus may be the mastermind behind some great cars but he's definitely no Jaime Melo or Mika Salo behind the wheel. Thanks again for the update.

This will be a serious race effort.

NTechnology will be running the Race Team:

http://www.autoevolution.com/news/porsche-...race-23023.html

Here are the guys building P 4/5 C under the direction of Paolo Garella who was Head of The P 4/5 Project at Pininfarina:

http://www.lmdigianetti.it/

Drivers are TBD but will be very competent.

I will stand in the Pits holding the Stop Watch that Steve McQueen used in Le Mans and trying not to get in the way.

The reason we're using an F430 and an F430 GT2 to build P 4/5 C is that Carbon tubs aren't allowed at Ring and at The Ring a V 12 wouldn't be competive due to excessive fuel consumption.

We're basically building to GT2 specifications with a P 4/5 shaped body for class EXP1. After her racing days are over we'll convert her to road legal configuration and I'll drive her on Sundays.

Wow. I can imagine that will easily be the best looking car there. Good luck!

Cool, that definitely gives me confidence that it'll be a strong contender in the race then, as it should be given the heritage it represents and the drivetrain it's carrying! You're a lucky man to be able to drive that car, I saw the P4/5 at the Cavallino Classic a couple years ago and thought it was stunning, even when seen next to an actual P4 or 412P.
pingu666
long as the aero is good, should be competitive smile.gif

We're spending a lot of time on the aero and have a good base to work off of with P 4/5.

We have a lot of aero data from P 4/5 that we got in The Pininfarina Wind Tunnel. We'll also do wind tunnel work on P 4/5 C.
Dan333SP
Considering you guys will be racing this car against the very machine that it is mechanically based on, the F430 GT2, do you expect at this stage to be able to outpace that car when the P4/5 is fully developed? That'd be quite an achievement to beat Ferrari at their own game, I'd say.
TC3000
awesome looking car, thanks for "spicing" up the field at the 24h
you have your work cut out - but good luck and all the best with it - I hope you go well there.
BTW impressive front splitter/aero

We do have our work cut out for us. That said we hope to be very competitive.

Why, Why, Why does world TV focus on the Lemans and Daytona 24 hr, but ignore this race?

Don't get me wrong, I think Nurburgring 24h is as good as Le Mans (if not even better), and there's no better track than Nordschleife, but - it's more like a massive national "club race". Manufactor interest in leading GT classes is rapidly increasing, though.

Besides, N24 is actually covered better than most of the endurance races - the whole 24 hours is streamed live via internet.
gm914
Hey I notice a Gran Turismo 5 decal on the windshield.

Is the P4/5 going to be in the game?!

Yes, but you're assuming the aero is going to be better by default. Not to downplay the work James Glickenhaus' crew are doing on the car, but it's a tall order to take a shape that is designed mainly for aesthetics (based on a 60s racer that was lovely but not advanced in a modern, downforce-focused sense) and tune it for racing versus a shape like the 430's which is designed for aero efficiency first, aesthetics second and easily converted into an effective racer. It might well end up being faster than the 430GT, but it's a tall order and definitely something that should be applauded were it to happen.

its not f1 complexity

http://speedhunters.com/archive/2010/06/10...e-c6-r-gt2.aspx some nice cfd pics in there, this new car will be more akin to vette in terms of nose, i guess

there should be pics about of the ferrari without the bumper on, i might even have some from le mans redface.gif

P 4/5 has much better aero than an Enzo. It has twice the downforce and is much more balanced F/R. It spent a lot of time in the PF wind tunnel including in Enzo form/Full Scale Wind Tunnel Model and development form as P 4/5.

P 4/5 C's aero will be much better than an F 430 GT2's and as we have one of those we'll confirm that in the wind tunnel.

All that said regulators today really equalise the cars using air restriction and ballast so all the cars in class will be competitive. Our class is EXP1 and includes the Porsche GTR 3 Hybrid which will get better mileage which is a big factor at the Ring. Porsche may also enter their new 918 Hybrid. We hope they make them run with a smaller fuel tank than us. smile.gif

Yes, when the game is released in 2010, 2011, 2012...

Every car in this year's race had a Gran Turismo 5 decal on the windscreen, because the game was one of the race's official sponsors.

That's very nice. Is there a reason that you aren't going for a 'full out' NART livery, i.e all white and blue?

(not that I have a preference one way or the other, just curious, now the image mentions NART).
King Six
Looks expensive, I thought the P4/5 was a one off car made for some dude. When you get it all proper, make sure to update the wiki. wink.gif

Take the blue out. Blue and white is never good. wink.gif

Red and white all the way cool.gif

Beautiful car, and I don't say that about very many Ferraris. Good luck with your entry. smile.gif

Is this a NART entry? It would look fantastic in the all blue and white NART colours, never been a fan of red myself. up.gif

Stunning.

It's a shame that with all the sponsor's decals stuck on modern day racers, we sometimes lose these clean flowing lines.
It would be lovely if you could keep them as simple as possible. ( I know. They pay the bills...)
Or design them in such a way as to accentuate the flow of the car.

I'd also like to know whether there is a connection to NART, or are you just giving Luigi Chinetti a nostalgic nod?
If you could acquire the rights to the NART name, I can't think of a better car to revive Chinetti's legacy & take that sucker to Le Mans!! up.gif

What is Maranello's take on this whole project then?

Hi

The colors are an Homage to NART but there is no official connection.

P 4/5 C will run under my Family's Shield (Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus)

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/3541/logored.jpg

The Factory is aware of what we're doing but there is no official connection with Ferrari.

If we were to win It wouldn't surprise me if we got a call from them.

That thing looks even more like the original 330 P4 or P3/4 than the road going version, I love it. What's with the many circles in the wheel wells in the engineering drawings? Are those the maximum angles of deflection in the suspension travel or what?

We made subtle changes to the upper nose inlets which are more P 3/4.

The Engineering Images show maximum travel and clearance.

By the way - during this year's race John Hindhaugh said there will be greatly improved TV coverage next year. As the Nordschleife is so bloody long, they haven't been able to show camera footage from all around the track in the past years - but that seems to change. What I'd really love is more footage from night time. It's absolutely fabulous that the whole event and night are streamed live and without interruptions, but who wouldnt love to shee shots around the circuit when the cars are blasting through the darkness.

I can't believe how Hindy, Goodwin and Truswell survived through the graveyard shift into morning hours, looking only at the static start straight screen and live timing! It was the first time they managed to cover the entire 24 hours, and the first time I've watched a 24h event without any sleep at all!
