Just read on James Allen's site that a new movie on the life of Ayrton Senna has been made and is due to be released this Fall.

James allen on the movie;

"There is a film in production at the moment about the life of Ayrton Senna, which is due to come out in cinemas in the Autumn.

I was the first journalist to see it and I’ve now seen it twice, the most recent occasion with Martin Brundle, Senna’s rival from British F3 days, shortly before the Silverstone weekend. He liked it as much as I did.

It is an absolutely fantastic film and I’m sure that not only are F1 fans going to be blown away by it, but it will cross-over into the mainstream with many non F1 fans, especially women, drawn to the poignant human interest story at the heart of it."

I don't usually watch docu-dramas but I will definately give this a go. I started watching F1 in the latter stages of his career. Definately an interesting character. Alonso kinda reminds me of him in that they both very temperamental and will do anything to gain the upper hand. Should make for interesting watching.

Oh right, so according to JA, women can only enjoy the film because of the "human interest" story? I am seriously annoyed at that comment...I don't need sob stories to enjoy F1. mad.gif

I am looking forward to the film though. smile.gif

I think he meant women who were not F1 fans.

I realise that, but I am annoyed at the suggestion that women should be especially drawn to something because it has a "human interest" element. It's a bit of an insult if you ask me. ambivalent.gif

I personally prefered playing with my cars when I was a kid I'm sure more men do that than women the last time I noticed.

But it works like that pretty much if we look at the cold numbers (ask producers and distribution companies).
as65p
Of course I'll watch it, but I don't expect too much (even less with all that talk about the "human aspect").

The one piece of Senna memorabilia I treasure is that video from Honda showing Prost and Senna in-car cams of Suzuka '89. The whole race, no commentary, just engine sound, view switching between the two every 5 to 10 laps. love.gif

That's the kind of stuff I'd be willing to pay a small fortune to have more of. Or how about a collection of Senna qualifying laps? Since Eurosport started coverage mid '89 there exists quite a bit of material on that, but before that time very little. I'm only aware of Monaco '86 and '87 and that marvellous Brands Hatch '85 footage. I hate to think that there is probably quite a lot of unreleased material of Senna from the Turbo era, in car, racing and qualifying, rotting to pieces in some forgotten archives. Instead on every "new" piece about Senna they tend to recycle the same, well-known-for-years footage.

I got the impression that he meant that if a woman liked Bridget Jones, she'd like the Senna movie. confused.gif

It appears to have never before seen stuff from the archives - so let´s hope for the best - I can imagine it will spring some positive surprises.
Feature-length in itself is fantastic, it will drag you into the aura of Senna.
Also the absence of a commentator is promising, most of the Senna films that have been issued the last 20 years are just 50 minutes to an hour with a commentator leading through the film.

So Ayrton Senna - The Movie seems to be something different.
Owen
All sounding pretty exciting. Can't wait.

Which would need to be unreleased stuff showing him in car, racing. At least so I hope, I'm quite a bit less keen of additional footage of him running up and down a beach or relaxing at the pool. wink.gif

Just to be clear we are talking about a Documentary here and not in fact a Movie?

Movie length Documentary.

A documentary is the right approach. Can't imagine any actor playing Senna, or Ron Dennis and Bernie lol.gif

Sounds good.

Top Gear are also doing a feature on Senna to celebrate his 50th on Sunday, 25th July on BBC. Lewis Hamilton will also be driving his McLaren MP4/4 on the same episode.

Yeah, I understand that - I like Senna in the car also the best, followed by Senna speaking about racing and his philosophy. Followed by him waiting in the box, concentrating before one of his killer qualifying laps - the samurai before entering the battle.
For the Brazilians, though, life out on the fazenda is something very dear, so these shots of Senna in his private surroundings are still very poignant. I lived in Brasil for two years myself and became accustomed with their life style.

By the way, last Monday I was again in Eisenach, really hot in the afternoon, then I had a lecture in the "Audimax", just by the "Goldener Löwe", and that nice, cooling thunderstorm came - what a blessing. If we were ever to shoot "As65p - The Movie", I know already some nice shots for that film....as65p running up and down the Wartburgallee....wink.gif

I was wondering how this project was progressing. I'm very much looking forward to it. I also agree that a documentary is the best approach, rather than a feature film. However, if it is successful, I wouldn't be surprised to see a movie version of his life appear on screen. Senna is a very compelling individual.

Yep I thought the same. I'd already seen the shot of him on the grid at Imola but from the otherside of the car. He looked a little troubled by his thoughts.

Says 8th October on the Japanese trailer.

Funny how there's a Japanese website for the film, but nothing for English speaking people?

Yes, I know. But to neglect the English speaking audience of anything resembling a shred of information is a bit of a marketing gaff.

Lets hope it has a decent distribution list. Don't fancy having to go all of the way down to London to see it.
