The Innes part, obviously. Is it IN-ce, or IN-nis?

My wee boy is called Innes (my wife suggested it as a name, but all my friends assume I chose it after II. I just tell them I wanted Jimmy or Jackie......)

I pronounce it Inn-es (with a longer s) or Inn-is (with a shorter s), but he is only 3 months old, so I've time yet to decide on the definitive pronunciation !

Having consulted with my wife (bit of a weird coversation that!) we recon we use 'Inn-is'

Anyway, until the TNF babygrows are available......

I'd go with Inn-is as well, I wanted to call my lad that but the missus said no.

Well, No is quite nice...

Innis in Innes is that the same as Sterling in Stirling

I agree with your missus, anything is better than calling the lad "That"

It was definitely pronounced In--ess ,except for the French in 1959 who insisted on calling him Ives Iveland.
Mind you most time he was known as McGregor to his friends when talking about him .

In-ess.
At least this is how he left messages on my phone when he was running IMSA races.

The last two posts suggest the stress was on the second syllable. Surely not?

If he were the Irish Innes Ireland he may well have pronounced it that way, but he was, in fact, from the Scottish branch of the family...

No, no, no - it's spelt Raymond Luxury Yacht, but it's pronounced 'Throatwobbler Mangrove. smile.gif
