Do you really blaim him, as he was kicked out of Williams in favour for
Montoya after 1 year.

Anyway, if we stay a little on topic. I wonder if MS is going to have less or more tire wear
now when they are going to transfer more weight to the rear of the car.

Yes it was just an agreement in principle. So not enforceable. Still, he'd signed something, what was it supposed to be? Something that didn't mean anything?

Aim of this thread is to discuss issues related to Michael Schumacher. After Bahrain voices were heard about several weaknesses in his current cornering technique. It is my hope we can continue in that spirit, and check on him through the season.

Schu admits 'more relaxed' but still 'serious' about F1

QUOTE
In an interview with Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung, the seven time world champion said until his retirement in 2006 he was immersed in the "negative aspects" of formula one.

"It absolutely wore me down," said Schumacher, who has struggled to match the pace of his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg so far this season. He continued: "I believe people have noticed that how I was extremely dogged in the past I am now more calm, in a way that previously I was only able to be sometimes."

But as the criticism mounts, particularly after China where Schumacher struggled notably, he insists: "I have not lost any focus or my determination."I am still taking it seriously and am still very hard on myself. In that way nothing has changed," said the record winner of 91 grands prix.

Schumacher admits his biggest problem with today's formula one is the tyres.

"The narrower front tyres, both for the dry and for the rain, I don't know from my past. Each driver needs to learn how they behave and so my colleagues have a head-start."He explained that where previously he would be using practice sessions to work on fine-tuning for the race, he is now feeling uncertain on Fridays as to how the weekend will develop.

Rosberg on Schumacher: "And I can say for sure that in Malaysia, which was the third race, we were even."

QUOTE (Sulman @ May 5 2010, 19:12) *
Perhaps not. There were rumours from Aida that year that Benetton were using traction control (and Ferrari, after Larini let it slip in a pc. Mclaren got done using a fully-automatic upshift, if memory serves). Likewise, Tom Walkinshaw was kicked sideways to Ligier for the next year (seen speculatively as a sacrificial scalp), and the non-compliant fuel rig most certainly was used.

Schumacher did a sterling job that year but in my opinion there was was some distinct rule-bending going on at the team. Pat Symonds denies this repeatedly, but look what he went on to do...

Thats how i saw it as well

Rosberg almost stopped before the last turn in FP2 Malaysia to put together a good lap. There were a few things in Rosberg's favor this year. Knowledge of tyres (head start), his weight and its impact on balance, luck (incidents).

Although Shumi still has some issues to iron out, I expect to see him do much better from barcelona. We shall see how schumi can adapt, if he can!

Go Schumi!

I've read it at least 5 times now, but the logic still escapes me. The narrower tyres are new to everyone, but still the others have had a headstart over MS? Hu?

I think MS meant about the new generation of slicks. Well, these are new to the rookies as well.

Could this GP be the turning point? When I saw him jump up towards the (temporary) spot 1 in FP1 I got a glance of hope that he's able to attack again in the car. Moving up from Malaysia (where according to Nico they were on par). China definitely was -also in the words of Nico- an anomaly.

half a second on Rosberg, best session for michael so far !

Very early in the weekend, but he's looking more self-assured in the car. Very aggressive direction changes, and kerb hopping. FP1 looked a bit like he was enjoying it.

but still decent. i hope it's a big step forward for schumi, not a step back for nico. the distance between hamilton and the rest is massive, though.

I'd be very surprised if Nico doesn't pull things back; he's very quick. However, If Michael and Nico can really give each other a shove, Mercedes will start to do very well this season. Michael looked the happiest in that car since, oh, 2006. He obviously found something in the setup that invited confidence.

That being said, temperatures were odd this morning (low), and if they go up or down the balance will change.

This has got nothing to do with the current discussion going on in this thread but to make a li'l note I wanted to mention this because when Schumi didn't sign an autograph for a child during testing at the beginning of the season, a ten page long thread was opened for it.

"Mercedes Formula One driver Michael Schumacher of Germany meets with a disabled fan Meng Yushan during the qualifying session for the Chinese F1 Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit in Shanghai, China"

Looking at FP1 and FP2, Looks like MS does have 0.35 sec over rosberg. Lets see how the weekend progresses.

I doubt it, think it will be slow progress still but as long as he goes in the right direction it's all good.

Rosberg is still race fitter and more current car experienced than MS don't forget, I just expect MS to be closer but quite realistically still behind - for now.

At last the results from Mercedes are not looking nonsense... Was the chassis really broken, then? And is Schumacher using the same chassis specification as Rosberg?

Hi Schu fans.

I am currently working on a 3 part series of paintings depicting the 'Rain Masters of Formula One'.

I have decided to focus my efforts on Jackie Stewart, Ayrton Senna, and your man Schu.

(I have Senna's & Stewarts already sketched out, but still need a Schui race)

So in your opinion, what were the 3 ( or more) most amazing wet weather performances by Michael over the years?

Track & Year, any snippets of info are helpful too. (as are youtube clips or links)

Thanks, & I hope we see him on the podium this weekend in Spain!

1995 Spa
Staying on slicks to win against Hill

1996 Spain First Ferrari win dominant fashion

2006 China- Last Ferrari win, like the first in the rain, but I think because of the tyre war, and the fact Michael was so much quicker on bridgestones then any other bridgestone shod car, even his own teamate Massa who struggled for a point, it was a great performance, the ferrari brass had written off the win after qualifying even then Michael put in a pretty special lap to get up there, he was sandwiched with michelin runners. Great race under pressure, title points important as well, and last races at the time of his career, so showing everyone even in his retiring year he was capable of being the major player in a race and the rain master signing off in his last rain race at the time. Great way to go out.
