I find it truly staggering even a little creepy that there is a continual morbid clinging onto Senna and that people just cant move on and let go it has not happened with any other driver

I can understand if Bianca and Vivianne haven't let go and moved on but how many on message boards and guestbooks actually knew Senna or met him in person ? 1% maybe at best doubt even that

Every year there is sentimental outpourings of grief for Senna that there isn't for Gilles, Clark, Peterson etc etc, the Ronnie Peterson museum celebrating the life of a noble sportsman with ethics and a truly great driver and gentleman closes down through lack of funds while a cheat and dirty driver gets near on beatified

Can someone ban this guy? All he does is talk shit on every thread.

People are bound to want to remember him, he's one of the greatest racing drivers of all time.

It's a forum. We should have different opinions. If you can't deal with the fact that Senna was a very brilliant driver, but also very complicated, not very nice, stubborn, wanted to win at any cost - and that he didn't think twice about driving the opposition off the road maybe it is time to grow up?

I have never disputed Sennas ability as a driver, the guy was a genius although I hold him responsible for the decline in on track ethics through motor racing, the behaviour of the likes of Schumacher and Webber and others over the years would not have happened if Senna hadn't made it an art form, and it happens in lower forms of racing too so I hold the blame for that fairly and squarely at Senna's door, his legacy for me will always be that of a dirty driver and a cheat no matter how much genius he had and he had a lot

The bit I have bolded could equally be if not more so described about Mansell (my favourite driver to watch ever), driving in a cockpit full of leaking burning fuel, getting out and pushing a car over the line, physical exhaustion after races (even if a bit of it was milked) but Mansell for me was Senna without the cheating

In a way you are right. I mean he wasn't a genius because "he was the most complete driver forever"- oh no. He was an awesome driver, the best qualifier ever- but the most amazing thing about him was that he changed so many things in F1: the attitude towards qualifying, the attitude towards racing in rain, how to block a faster opponent- and yes, the moral ethics on track.

BUT- it was NOT cheating. It would have been cheating if he had intended to hide this dark side of him, if he'd ever really pretended that those incidents were "by chance". But no, in this way he was as straightforward as Nigel- you had no doubt what was his real intent on track. Several times he went on to confess publicly that he did everything to win. The other drivers knew it, and most of them decided to move out of the way- still there were times when Prost decided to meet this "all or nothing with lives at stakes" challenge. No, "cheating" is the incorrect word regarding Ayrton.

He was like - I think - like Angel, the vampire with a soul- a great champion with a certain dark side. Oh I love him with it, the complete package cool.gif

For me, he's the greatest ever.

Happy birthday Ayrton!

Yes simply amazing! eek.gif

Is it photoshopped, done with a time machine or Ayrton incarnating himself in and through Bruno?

Wow!

Senna never cheated... he used unsportmanship-like tactics, but cheating is using illegal fuel, using dope, in short: gaining an advantage by secretely and covertly trying to gain an unfair advantage.

Ayrton Senna, fantastic driver, tremendous personality, true legend. The spice of Formula One.

I'm not mourning, I'm celebrating his birthday.

I feel lucky to have watched him race and even luckier to meet the man. He was a great racing driver and a very nice, very cordial guy.

No one lives forever, there's no bringing him back. I feel the same with Gilles - lucky to have seen them while they were displaying their talent.

Thanks for the memories up.gif

I just send this photograph to a friend of mine from Sao Paulo who knew Ayrton very well.
He said it was Ayrton.

So if it is indeed Bruno it is simply amazing.

Care to elaborate? When exactly did you meet him? Thanks!

he was willing to sacrifice what no one else was or willing to do to reach his zenith

What did he sacrifice that noone else did?

lol of course it is Bruno! Just have to watch the Bahrain GP 2010 race, and see when he retired and was set to get out of his car, then you'd see that screen shot. smile.gif

Its because his legend goes beyond the sport.

Ali, Jordan, Senna just to name 3 examples - the ultimate upper echelon of sportsmen who were not only brilliant in their chosen fields, but also charismatic enough off the court/ring/field/track to capture the imagination of a entire generation of fans.

To be greatest, happy belated bday.

This is exactly the point about the phenomenon that is Ayrton.

He is in the league of a Jesse Owens, a Muhammad Ali, a Carl Lewis, a Pele, a Jordan - there is something more to him than just the achievements, and many people resonate with that reality. For those who don“t feel that greatness it is not to be understood.

When he was in Phoenix. We both stayed at The Phoenician in Scottsdale for the GP. In passing I wished him good luck for the weekend and told him that I was a fan. He took the time to small talk a bit and then went on his way. Very nice, very cordial guy. He could have just said 'thanks' and been on his way, but he didn't. he took the time to ask about me; if I lived in Scottsdale and then where I was from, etc etc.

He may have been ruthless behind the wheel - a trait which I do respect - but he came across to me as a very grounded individual.
