Who's up for forming an F1 team? For only €1,000, it must be worth it, right? wink.gif

FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

The FIA has decided to open a new selection process to identify a candidate team to fill any vacancy that may exist in the FIA Formula One World Championship at the start of the 2011 season. The FIA may also identify one or more possible ‘reserve’ entrants to fill such vacancies.

This selection process will be open to all candidates capable of participating in the Championship for 2011 and 2012. The overall long-term interests of the Championship will determine which candidates are selected.

The precise terms of this selection process, together with the applicable selection criteria, deadlines, legal requirements and other conditions, will be communicated to candidates who have registered a formal expression of interest with the FIA’s Secretariat before 5pm CET Thursday 15th April 2010, together with an administration fee of €1,000. The application process will commence at that time with those who have registered an expression of interest before this deadline (late applicants will be admitted only at the FIA’s discretion). This fee is non-refundable, although it will be offset against the application fee, which the FIA will require from those submitting full applications.

All applicants will be expected to undergo thorough due diligence. By way of indication only, the applicable selection criteria will include:

a) the technical ability and resources of the team;
b) the ability of the team to raise and maintain sufficient funding to allow participation;
c) the team’s experience and human resources;
d) the FIA’s assessment of the value that the candidate may bring to the Championship as a whole.

The timing of this process will depend on the candidates’ responses. However, by way of indication only, the FIA anticipates that full applications will need to be submitted by the end of June, followed by due diligence leading to a decision in July 2010.

Note: The FIA hereby invites interested parties to send a formal expression of interest and administration fee to the FIA Secretariat (legal@fia.com / Bank: Crédit du Nord, 50 rue d'Anjou, 75008 Paris, IBAN CODE: FR76 3007 6020 2025 3680 0020 034, SWIFT CODE: NORDFRPP Account holder: FIA), together with full contact details and a letter introducing their candidacy.

I can see FIA getting a lot of joke applications here.

betcha with a €1,000 administration fee they won't this year.

Also I like point C where FIA will look at a team's human resources, I guess Stefan GP better dump Coughlan forthwith if they want any chance of even being considered for 2011.

I dont think there was a fee for lodging an application last year. The procedure appeared to be that one would submit an application according to the form in Appendix 2 of the Sporting Regulations, and then the FIA would decide if you were one of the successful group or not.
If you won a spot, then you would proceed to the stage of having to pay the entry fee of 309 thousand Euro by 'no later than 1 November'.

This year, maybe they put in the token 1 thousand just to stop silly entries like MyF1Dream.
But you'd still have to find 309 thousand Euro if you win.

So how is this supposed to work? Does the FIA expect a team to design and build a car just in case someone drops out?

A fan run team was potentially interesting, if it wasn't put together by someone who appeared to be so completely incompetent and unaware of what was actually invovled in the sport.

I think the idea is that if one of the current teams drops out sometime this year then the reserve can start work the next day without having to wait months for another selection process.

But seriously, this is a perfect illustration of how much F1 has changed in the last few years, from a multi-million deposit to a €1,000 admin fee.

Comparing apples and oranges there, anyway the €1,000 is not an application fee but only the administration fee for registering a formal expression of interest. The application fee will be payable only for those wanting to make a full application and the initial €1,000 will be offset against it.

So basically €1,000 only buys you a bunch of paperwork clarifying the selection process.

that's what i asked myself. which team is interested in doing this?! build a car, have people ready to run it, etc... without having a guaranteed slot? what are they supposed to tell their potential sponors, their drivers? "hey guys, give is your money and join us as drivers, however we don't know if we acutally get to race..." stupid.

If FIA allowed me to use GP2 cars with Turbo powered engines ( F1 spec engines are too expensive for me, unless I get sponsered from FIA for cheap F1 engines ) then I'd apply. But all the teams would complain, especially Red Bull drunk.gif

edit: I'd probably be very competitive since current GP2 cars with only 580 hp are not that far off from F1 laptimes. With a 750 hp power unit, it should be very competive. clap.gif
So I guess I have to pass tongue.gif

Why won't Porsche come to F1. Their business model is making money from sports and with the current freezing of development and standard parts, it could be possible for Porsche to make money of F1 and hence they might be interesting.

They are extremely good in Le mans cars. Despite competing in a lower class, they have often beaten cars from the top classes such as the Audi's which is extremely funny. roflmao.gif

edit: So these guys have probably the best technical know how, probably more so than Audi up.gif

Because Porsche is owned by the Volkswagen group, and Volkswagen want to enter the sport as a constructor in their own right.

Just had a look at the myf1dream website to give myself a laugh again, it is now called mygpdream, presumably because Bernie's lawyers have been in touch lol.gif . I assume there was no 1000 euro fee last year because the mygpdream guy is bitching about it on his twitter feed ...

"€1,000 entry fee, never thought I would say this but bring back mad max when entry process was free and open to all !!!!"

So it sounds like the entry fee is a good idea and stops jokers like mygpdream getting involved. Seriously, if he cant get 1000 euros together for the entry fee he's not going to get a team togther whatever his fantasies drunk.gif . He also tweeted...

"Is there really any point in going through the FIA F1 entry process when the russian mafia have bought out USF1, sorry fans !!"

I assume he means the Serbian Stefan GP, who haven't bought out USF1 and don't actually seem that welcomed by the Bernie or FIA. Sounds like he's looking for excuses to not apply, not that it appears anyone visiting his site or twitter actually care!

What?

Something Peter Windsor said back in December. He was talking about the way Europe shuts down for eighteen days over the Christmas break, but America only closes down for four, something that would allow USF1 to run a completely different timetable to the oher twelve teams. However, the European press quoted Windsor and wrote their articles in such a way that it cam across as an attack on Europe or being lazy.

Epsilon have a history of abandoning projects when they go badly. The Epsilon Euskadi ee1 was one of the best-looking sports prototypes ever made, but it was abysmally slow. Rather than develop the car further, Epsilon abandoned it and decided to concentrate in Formula 1 instead.
werks prototype
I have just sent off my 1000 today. The car, freshly vacuum formed at home with the help of a hoover, is due out of the oven any time soon, I've had the old CFD smoking my laptop for a week now (yet to complete a single calculation) and I'm feeling good. I have decided to bet with Branson next year that my car beats his and he has to then dress up as a bastard.
