IMO, that was actually a very bad article to quote to state your case. It makes it sound like NASCAR is a fraternity with rough hazing rituals, and that a newcomer should be bending over and taking it for a while and loving it. That actually makes Brad look very admirable for being unwilling to submit to such a demeaning hierarchy.

...but it is a demeaning heiarchy, and a fraternity. Those that realize it is, and play by it's unwritten rules, benefit in the long run, those that don't extend the period of apprenticeship..

Not everyone was running two wide. Go back and read this thread, go back and rewatch the incident, right in front of AJ there was three cars wide racing. You're obviously unwilling to look at the incident as it stands and you're content in the fact that Brad is a rookie and therefore is wrong. Oh well, you can lead a horse to water................

Reading the Autosport.com version of the latest story, I'm more of a Brad fan now than Edwards, all things being equal. I really dislike Edwards these days, because he plays both sides of the street. He is a prick, but that's no big deal most racers are. However unlike say a Tony Stewart or Kyle Busch, he tries to play Mr Sweet Boy Next Door in his public profile.

Didn't he punch another driver a few years ago? Like post-post race, ie when people were in civillian clothes. I want to say Kenseth, but it doesn't make sense that he'd get into a ruckus with his own team-mate, and at any rate Kenseth is about as aggressive as Mark Martin, personality wise.

As I recall, there was some pushing going on. It looked like Edwards was about to throw a punch, but he called it off and walked away.

He didn't hit Kenseth but he did indeed cock his hand at him on camera. Roush sat on him hard for that one. Edwards has also had some memorable run-ins with Stewart (contact on the track, then hit him on pit road) and with Junebug (ditto). These incidents were all in '07 as I recall. Tough year I suppose.

Edwards is an okay guy but just as you say, he is not the person in his carefully crafted on-camera persona. A bit of a screwball. Mercurial, shall we say. example, recall the Kesolowski deal -- on camera he said it wasn't Brad's fault, he'll have to look at the video, etc... then 100+ laps later he drills him and turns him.

Except for the fact that fans can be fanatical, I don't understand the fans screaming for Kesolowski's head. All the hits and re-hits have been issued. Retribution is not forever. Meanwhile, I am not impressed by Edwards' defense that he wasn't deliberately *trying* to put Kesolowski in the grandstands. When you hit and turn people, you own it. Especially at 190 mph. That wasn't Bowman-Gray Stadium they were running. He was lucky to get off with a three-race probation.

Some people need to lighten up on rookies IMHO. They have a limited time to impress and usually feel they are on a thread contract-wise. There's always someone else waiting to take their seat if the results are "mediocre". I don't see Penske pushing the panic button with Brad and he looked pretty reasonable today.

The more I go back and think about the two incidents the more I think that it's Edwards who comes out looking like he has 0 class at all, a cheap shot at best and a terribly dangerous piece of retribution at worst.

Wow? They've made up? Dear me, you'd think these two were 5 or something. Not a great example of how to act either of them.
