Just as I expected, 2009 races have been thrown into the mix. Which means the BBC can show full highlights for them.

Peter Baert aka Pitstop TV,
a belgian flemish TV commentator reported today that the BBC will not broadcast F1 anymore in the future, as the budgets have to come down with 25%.
It's becoming too expensive (read= Bernie Ecclestone asks too much)
BBC also thinks about ending with the very popular (all over the world) but very expensive = "Top Gear" show.
VRT (Belgian flemish national TV) will probably not renew the TV contract with mister E.

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pag...info&ref=mf*I thought the BBC had a multiple year contract (yes that was payed alot) but they were not going to drop it after 2 years?...

And will it really come to a time, where F1 isn't viewable on national TV channels.... :S because it's too expensive and ... F1 isn't for the mainstream folks intresting enough?

The BBC won't end their contract early, and I'm sure they'll keep showing it in future. They can cut costs in different areas, pay executives etc far less, pay their stars (eg Jonathan Ross) far less, and cut costs in various other areas.

Hardly a surprise is it. Shows they're not capable of reading and understanding something that I'd expect a 5 year old to understand.

Jake and co. on Twitter are already talking about 2011 - if BBC were dropping it, don't you think there would almost certainly be a silence?

Well Jonathan Ross is leaving the BBC this sumnmer so they are already making cuts in one area

Either three things will happen once the BBC's contract is up:
- There will be no Formula One aired in Britain
- Bernie will be forced to lower his asking price
- A breakaway series will affectively render F1 comercially redundant

He's making an assumption. For a start off, the budget cuts and the axings of BBC 6 Music and the Asian Network have not been finalised and confirmed by BBC Trust - who is the body which must approve this.
Until BBC Trust makes the decision, no cuts are being made. As for the "they have to cut 25% in the budget, so bye bye Formula One" comment, the Strategy Report that BBC published stated that they must limit sports rights to £300 million per year. Given that some newspapers while talking about it, said something along the lines of "BBC's sports include Formula One and Wimbledon", Baert has took this as that BBC are axing Formula One.
Do you think that Jake and anyone else would be bloating on Twitter about this year's coverage, if they knew they wouldn't be on the air next year? Don't be daft.

And we'll get more classic races on that site over the year coming, exciting.
I think the BBC should only include 2009 races in the Classic Grand Prix if they were interesting races or if there is not enough.
Australia, Brazil and Belgium were the best races from last year and as long as the highlights differ from those already on the BBC website, I'll be fine.

The 2009 Ashes show why sports should not go PPV.
When England won in 2005 the nation watched it all on 4 and there was a husge interest and massive celebration. In 09 only those with Sky Sports could watch it and as such it slipped out of the public's concience far more than it should have.

There have been some, though haven't seen them, although that's mainly because I only really watch the BBC for the F1 and footy highlights. You never know when the promo's will be on, so there could be 5 a day, and you may miss them all, just because of not watching at the right time.

Nowhere does he say anything about Freeview, merely saying "red button" incorporates all other digital platforms. Unless the section I've highlighted in bold comes from a different source?
Although I have noted that in the Radio Times, they say FP1 will be available to watch at 6:55AM, and if it's not on Freeview, they usually put that in brackets, but they haven't. So.. I'm hopeful. But then again March 6 week's RT was published last, what, Tuesday?

I much prefer the 5 live commentary to the TV guys and it'd be great to have the red button option to listen to that on Freeview.

As I understand it the alternative commentary option will be available on freeview for qualy and the races.
Unfortunately we will still be going to other sports for the occasional update. The reason for this is that our company is commissioned to provide commentary for BBC Radio 5 Live, so we have to provide them with what they want. The Red Button people take a feed of the radio station output so there will be the occasional update.
