The LG Global Fan Survey 2010
Help to shape the future of F1…
We want to hear from the people whose opinions matter the most in Formula One – you, the fans. The Global Fan Survey carried out by LG and F1 Racing magazine is the only worldwide poll of grand prix fans. Commissioned by the sport’s key decision makers, it offers you a unique opportunity to share your opinions on everything from your favourite drivers to next year’s rule changes.
The survey will go live on February 2, 2010. Please either come back and fill the survey then or leave your email on the field below and we will contact you when the survey goes live.
The survey won’t take you long and you may help influence the future of the sport. We will then enter you in a competition to win £4000.
Bet nothing will actually end up changing from it though...

It probably will come 2nd Feb - it's a bit pooh that they didn't create a "see you soon!" page

The last one of these revealed that Spa was the most popular track. Spa was then axed the following year...

This thing is a load of rubbish. Least it was last year.
Having spent ten minutes filling it in you'd think they'd make the statistics readily available. Well apart from F1 Racing covering a few bits, if you wanted access to the whole thing it cost a few grand.

Help to shape the future of F1TM

We want to hear from the people whose opinions matter the most in Formula OneTM – you, the fans. The global fan survey carried out by LG Electronics and F1 Racing Magazine, in association with FOTA, is the only worldwide poll of Grand Prix fans. Commissioned by the sport’s key decision makers, it offers you a unique opportunity to share your opinions on everything from your favourite drivers to next year’s rule changes.
The survey won’t take you long and you may help influence the future of the sport.
You will also get the opportunity to enter our competition and be in with a chance to win one of three $1000 cash prizes to spend on LG products.
I don't get why the whole thing at the end has to be so pro-LG. Surely LG would benefit from being told where they could improve?

Wheres the option that says F1 cars are ugly and they need to make regulations that make the cars look pleasing to the eye?

some very odd questions in there: like f1 has the correct balance between safety and technology. (like there is a tradeoff between the two.)

It's hard to imagine that companies like LG and F1 don't have anyone good enough to create a simple reliable form with a simple reliable submit button and link it with a simple reliable db.
It's slow, which is quite odd for such a simple form and I can't pass "How long have you been following this driver?", because of this:
An error did occur during survey processing.
Please contact your feedback server administrator with following message :
Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown error occurred while processing the request on the server. The status code returned from the server was: 0
Seriously, I would make them a better form while I'm drunk.

I don't think they got much succour from me as I indicated that I barely knew the company and hadn't registered their participation in F1.
Good survey (loved the pick 5 best/worst countries - though it should have been tracks), however I seem to remember that FOTA drew some rather unsupported conclusions from the last one, hopefully they'll use this one to determine what people think, rather than to justify their preconceptions.

Yeah, I got screwed with that one.
Agree, I put gibberish in for that last bit with all the marketing and brand awareness questions.
Apparently Teletubbies sponsor a F1 team :-)
Seriously why bother wasting your time doing this?
FOTA know what we want. They promised it all when they were going to breakaway.
This survey is just done to make the fans think they care, and then sell on the information for £1,500+ at a time with perhaps half-a-dozen of the categories making an appearance in F1 Racing.

Can't be as bad as the FIA survey which they then ignored everything the public told them.

why the f*ck there is no option saying that KERS was just a waste of money???
Cause it's a fan survey, not a team survey?

While the survey wasn't very well made, they do take notice of it and more importantly companies do take notice of such surveys.
So by filling bullshit, you're simply telling companies around the world to skip F1 and go for TV ads during some stupid reality or football game!

Makes for exciting racing, though. But we wouldn't want that, though, right?
That site is inexcusably BAD! Four times I’ve tried to complete the survey and on every occasion it’s crashed
I thought it was an OK form. Pressing back always messes up anything where you are submitting data. It's a tricky problem to get around as a developer. You can't disable the back button, only provide another back button which retains the data (and make sure duplicate data is not inserted). Or something like that. But you must expect people will do it.
One question struck me as a bit strange. Something like "Do you want more races which show off the talents of the drivers".
I remember the last time FOTA asked fans to fill in a survey ... they ended up threatening to form their own series, and give the fans what they asked for, and ended up getting more money and do nothing for the fans ... i'm not filling in this one .. Thr Spa-example was best, say you like something, and we'll kill it ...

Is that the test drivers one? I think I put "Don't Know" as I didnt get what the question meant!
In fairness on the KERS questions, there were a couple on the quality of racing and whether it should be re-introduced...I did "Strongly Disagree" for both!
I need a new A/V Receiver, I'm sure LG has one worth a 1000$ but I don't expect much from that survey. I had the feeling it was more on the marketing side than racing.

What F1 needs is a good old dictator telling people what the hell F1 is and if they don't like it they can go watch tennis, hockey or whatever.

pushing the back button shouldn't kill your whole survey up to that point. It's lazy whoever wrote the form.
Done. Was both tedious and at times frustrating but done. At least someone bothers to actually ask and listen to the fans.
Whether anything changes is another thing...
All that will result from the survey (if anything at all), is more gimmicks. With that in mind it is probably best not to fill it in.

Indeed. That was a lesson I learned very early on when I started developing complex web forms.

They needed more options on the KERS section...
I filled it in with zero expectations and was justly rewarded.
but.....
If filling in a meaningless survey brings one more number to the list of people who watch F1 it will have been worthwhile. LG is looking at those numbers and making decisions with regard to their involvement in the sport. Hopefully they will see large enough numbers to justify continuing their commitment.

Yeah I had that problem too. None of the options were for 'unreliable pieces of garbage' or 'buy some other brand'.

A very good survey that gave a number of indications that there need to be changes in the way information is provided to viewers, and how the sport engages with it's fans.
"Most new venues are uninteresting and lack character" - "Strongly agree" just wasn't enough!

One of the questions you may recall is who is your favourite F1 driver.
F1 Fanatic says that Schumacher was voted 1st with 19.5% with Alonso in second on 9.7%.
And according to them, over 90,000 people participated in the survey!

Of course what we really want to find out is what they had to say about F1 and how they responded to questions such as whether F1 races should be shortened. Expect those results soon.
