Just read AutoExpress verdict; the 12C 'demolishes quality opposition like the 458 Italia' and features technology only seen on £500,000 cars, for £185,000.
Seems like McLaren Automotive hit the ground running with their first product! eek.gif

A very interesting read about Ferrari's press office but I am sure the guy had a few wines when he wrote this.

Mr Harris is a very well respected motoring journalist, who from experience (of reading his work in Autocar) specialises in high performance cars.

Don't disagree but maybe he is regetting his decision to leave Autocar and go to work for whatever website it is. I like everyone else, wants to see a fair comparison with the 458 and if Ferrari really play these games with the press I would love to see a standard McLaren MP4 12C vs a standard Ferrari 458 Italia and not some super fettled soft tyred variation on what people actually buy.

The weird thing is I am sure the MP4 12C is standard where-as the 458 I am not sure. Is this because I am English and distrust anything Italian or because I have read the forums for so many years smile.gif

I can seriously see both cars appeal to different people. The Ferrari is flamboyant and loud the McLaren is incredibly clever but understated. Which would I buy? I think you know from what I have posted.

The beauty of the Mac is if you don't like the looks you can re-skin it. I hope with the move to carbon tubs we will see a coach building renaissance.

As an aside the last time Autocar did one of their drivers car tests - dozens of cars driven round a test track to find both the fastest and best - ferrari did indeed send a team of people out. When the 458 proved slower than the 911 (I don't recall which model), it was fettled to give a better account of itself. In due course it did best the 911's time, but was not declared the overall winner, in part due to the presence of ferrari personnel.

Ok I think it's time for this thread to go as it long ago veered sharply away from motorsport.

Threads related to the road cars of other F1 manufacturers are in the Paddock Club, and there is already a thread there for this vehicle here. If you do not have access to the Paddock Club, and would like to discuss the McLaren road car, follow the instructions on the main page.

As and when there is something to discuss about the racing version, please start a new thread.
