Nick talks about his situation:

"Of course over the holidays my current job situation did not let go of me, even after Michael Schumacher's decision was published just before Christmas."

"This is certainly a great thing for Formula 1 and I wish good luck to Michael and Mercedes.

"This decision affects me directly because it means there is a relevant less space for next year. I am not naive when I say, especially after the past few weeks, a lot of unexpected things can happen in Formula 1.

"Now we have to look forward and focus on the best long-term option for my future in Formula 1. I will continue to train hard, conduct talks with the appropriate people and to challenge my chance with all my might," he said.

"I hope in the coming weeks to be able to announce something concrete about my future plans."

Weeks. ohwell.gif The first tests are in 4 weeks. How long can a team possibly delay driver decisions? One week before the first tests could be some kind of deadline.

All they have to do is buy him a Renault racesuit, give him a seat fitting and move the pedals about a foot closer than they'd be for Kubica.

Simples!

Kubica is the Alesi, and Heidfeld is the Berger.

So it will be heidfeld and kubica in a car that is in the top 3 but not fast enough to win. BMW 07-08 anybody?

Why not? Alonso and Kubica are good mates, if Alonso brings 0,6 to a team, then maybe Robert can at least 0,3,maybe FA gave him a part of his secret 0,6? tongue.gif

'It's meaningless PR talk' would be more appropriate. So they want a good driver (shocking!) and won't take anyone who might use his young age as an excuse for lack of performance (shocking again!). It doesn't mean a thing.

Although I totally want Heidfeld to end in Renault, or anywhere with a racing seat. The proposal 3rd driverrole at Mclaren is an insult for him.

So in fact, it might be a Gravity driver or not, but I can guarantee that it will be even more difficult for a Gravity driver to be selected as they really will have to prove their worth to be chosen as Renault's second driver.

Reminds me vaguely of Marquess di Montezemolo's classic Sponsors don't decide on our drivers. It could well mean it's Heidfeld, but as well it might be just an early defence against accusations of choosing a Gravity driver.
Markko
Maybe Renault wants Heidfeld but I think Kubica has no 1 status in his contract. This may be the problem for Heidfeld. He doesn't want to be no2.

In Marketing terms, we call Boullier's remarks a setup. (for a decision most likely already made)

"The second driver will have to be able to score points and challenge Robert Kubica," he said.
"So in fact, it might be a Gravity driver or not, but I can guarantee that it will be even more difficult for a Gravity driver to be selected as they really will have to prove their worth to be chosen as Renault's second driver."

This builds up the selection of the Gravity driver.
Not to do so, admits failure of the program.

It was not against Nick. Actually Kubica said that team for a couple of months was trying to resolve Nick's problems instead of making the car faster and that he needed their help too and hoped he would have got it.

Yea, I remember RK saying that. Such was the teams choice, no wonder he was bitter about it.

Interesting that Bob Bell said that 2010 would simply be about getting closer to the front in preparation for a challenge in 2011. Obviously keen to downplay expectation.

LOL. Listen, there's no downplay here. Renault is going to sux 2010. They are not going to sux coz "competition is superb" - they will sux coz they don't have ppl and organization to win.

And the current generation of drivers will adapt easy and kick his *** yet again.
TURU
Well, my assumption is based on his performance in 2006 (when he, WDC, was replaced by a rookie) and on the fact that he was not racing for last 3 years.

It was Heidfeld personally involved in BMW decision not fighting for WDC in 2008.

makes a really good point.

I know that Megan is a troll, I tried so hard to ignore him/not feed him, but the fact that he makes fans of Robert look so stupid, is really really annoying.
But ok.

So now JV in Renault? Seems really ridiculous, but on the other side, it would be one more WDC on the 2010 grid smoking.gif

This JV to Renault rumour has been popping here and there for some time now. Even though I'm of the opinion that you should give more youngsters a chance in F1, the prospect
of Jacques coming back to F1 is intriquing.

Well he held his own against Heidfeld, out qualified him 7-5.
He is/was extremely easy on the tyres (Heidfeld said it himself), often started with a heavy fuel load. prefered slicks. preferd mechanichal grip..

QUOTE
The Renault F1 Team is still on the sidelines for his second driver. The new Team Manager of the French team, Eric Boullier, confirms that more time is needed to decide among five remaining candidates.

"We have made progress, but we are still far from being able to disclose his name, said on French RMC.fr." There were French in the top ten, there may be more in the list five. There are several possible scenarios, including a French scenario. But today it is perhaps the one with the least chance of success. "

The Renault F1 Team is looking for a proven, capable of scoring big points, and keep pace with his teammate, Polish Robert Kubica.

"We will have a second driver to be able to score points and challenger Robert Kubica," said Eric Boullier. "Whether a pilot Gravity or not is not a priority. In any case I can guarantee that it will be d all the more difficult for a driver Gravity of being selected, it will really show what he is able to be selected second driver of the Renault F1 Team. "

Nick Heidfeld, Romain Grosjean, Jerome d'Ambrosio but Jacques Villeneuve are cited to reach the diamond in 2010.

Ok, but Mario had to be very disappointed by JV's performance to give his seat to a rookie. In addition, someone from BMW Sauber said (unfortunately dont remember who) that when Kubica came, suddenly Nick was few tenths faster, which can mean that Heidfeld somehow couldn't motivate himself to fight with slow JV. And he is 3 years older, so i dont think he would be faster or even at the same level as he was in 2006 rolleyes.gif

D'Ambrosio is not French, he is Belgian, but i suppose he is french-speaking guy. He seems to be the best of the Gravity guys, but still i would choose NH over him.

Mario didn't want JV there in the first place but had to honour his contract. Then after JVs crash Mario wanted JV to sit out the following GP which he wouldn't so he walked away. BMW had a update for Kubicas first race which improved the car. That's why they were faster all of a sudden. And I don't agree JV was slow. Nick said there were no difference between Robert and Jacques.
Well no one knows how fast he'd be I agree, but the cars suits him way better now than in 2006. If he gets a drive we'll see. I just don't see any reason for anyone to bash him before he even has a drive..
