He's a part of the Red Bull programme, but he's also pays plenty for his F1 seat.

This is in contrast to, say Buemi and Ricciardo, who are there soley on merit.

Sorry, I was referring to this quote from Boullier

QUOTE
"I am looking for talent first and foremost, but then after that I do need to consider the sponsorship opportunities," said Bouiller. "People say we are only looking at Petrov because he is bringing a lot of money, but he is not the richest driver we are talking to."

And replied in kind Algueruari is an exclusive Redbull Young Driver and was not from what I have read in contention for the Renault seat.

It appears Petrov is now in doubt for this seat.

According to this article his Dad is struggling to pay.

If he can't find the cash I wonder who they'll put in the car?

http://willthef1journo.wordpress.com/

That's utterly insane. Asking a 7.5M€ loan to the bank with no guarantees whatsoever he'll find sponsors? confused.gif Huge, huge risk.

Trouble is, Petrov is far better than the other names you suggest.

None of those other guys deserve an F1 break. Petrov surely does.

Tung and Charouz certainly don't, but I rate d'Ambrosio higher than Petrov. Strong racer, beat Kobayashi by far in the european seasons and ran him close in Asia, didn't have as many seasons in GP2 to develop his talent as Petrov did, neither had the chance of driving for a top GP2 team, neither had an experienced team-mate to learn from like Petrov did from Pantano and di Grassi.

I don't quite understand why Tung appears to be the 3rd driver and d'Ambrosio only the 4th. Surely Renault would give a race seat to the belgian rather than to the chinese?

This is a classic example why the financial industry is in sh1t, and why Western societies have the highest personal debt ratios in the world, which ultimately will become unsustainable. "Living above their means" I want my son to become a captain of industry and commerce. I also want my daughter to become the next Rosalind Franklin, or the female equivalent of Dmitri Mendeleev(a genius) because she is the brains of the family. But I'll tell you one thing, I'm not going to bankrupt myself doing it.

There is a big difference between a child asking you to re-mortgage one of your houses, because she needs £250K in start up money to fund a biotech company. At least you can see a possible return(finding a cure for Cancer, Alzheimer, Parkinson's etc) But to go f**king racing with no guarantee of being taken on by a bigger team and paid in the future? roflmao.gif Do me a favour. eek.gif

The odds of Petrov being successful in F1 are far higher than finding a cure for cancer with £250K. but I see your point.

Money is nice, but there's got to be a limit as to the minimum talent they're going to let into the car in a race. I don't think Renault would be too happy by watching a car with their brand being driven by the modern version of Deletraz - not saying Tung is that bad, just exaggerating to make a point.

Besides, I thought Tung wasn't loaded with cash (if he was he'd have bought a decent GP2 seat a long time ago), he's just from a very strong market yet to be opened properly to F1.

Petrov’s Renault Seat is Not 100% Secure:

http://willthef1journo.wordpress.com/2010/...not-100-secure/

First thing first, wouldn’t it be better if Renault thread and Petrov thread be merged. After all he is Renauly driver and almost everything that is written in Petrov thread concerns also Renault.

OK. Let’s take a closer look at Mr. Buxton’s blog-article. It actually comprise most of what we already knew about Petrov’s way into F1, with one new information (bank is having second thoughts) and one modified information (Putin wrote a letter - previous knowledge was that they wrote to Putin). All the rest is old stuff mixed together in a typical journalist shake: story about manager and 500 companies is old, known for a week or so, and Vitaly’s crying scene happened before he signed with Renault, but blog is written in a mixed chronology, which is supposed to fool a reader into thought that Vitaly Petrov, already a Formula One driver, is crying because he is going to lose his seat. down.gif
Most intriguing is part about Big Shots writing a letter of support for Petrov. That makes no sense. If tsar Putin expresses such a wish, it is definitely certain it shall be fulfilled. And there would be no question mark upon Petrov’s F1 career. I guess that some misunderstanding happened on line Russian media - Google translation - Mr. Buxton. drunk.gif

And now for some serious JV business. cool.gif What if Petrov doesn’t deliver? It will be March already. Before they decide who is going to drive in his stead (and they are not quick deciders), 2010 F1 season will start. They can not stay with Petrov - lose of face blush.gif . They can not take a newbie - no practice problems . There is only one solution: experienced driver. But wait, is there anyone left. Yes, yes, it is. Its our Good fellow Jacques. Long live Jacquerie.

Its a cunning plan. Renault let Petrov drives Bahrain GP and only then they sack penniless Paytrov, and hire JV. JV gets 3 days of newcomer testing, they use extra testing to incorporate all the secrets they saw on RBR6 in Bahrain and take WDC and WCC. clap.gif

Happy end after all.

There were rumors that Renault is selling F1 Team, it turned out they were true. There were rumors that Petrov is going to be second driver, it turned out they were true. There were rumors about some unknown bloke Bouiller will be the new boss, guess what, it turned out that is also true. There were rumors that Renault is behind the schedule with R30, although they started in mid 2009, but once again, it was true.
A lot of bad (surpassingly) news is becoming true in case of Renault. That’s why I won’t be surprised if Petrov story is also true. In theirs official denial of rumors they are just saying that Vitaly signed a valid contract. There is not a single word, that they (father) don’t have liquidity problems.
I am skeptical about another thing: I don’t think Putin likes to be dictated what to do. Petrovs first entered F1 and now they are asking Putin for support, to pay the debts they made?! That is not the way it should be done.
I really do hope everything will turn out OK for Petrov, but I guess you just can’t tell with Renault this year. It can be just a rumor, like that one about Chinese driver wink.gif , but it also can be very much true.

Renault had planned to run Petrov on the first two days and Robert Kubica during the last two days of testing, however test driver Ho-Pin Tung will attend the first two days as a ‘reserve’ driver – possibly a sign Renault are putting pressure on Petrov to cough up his sponsorship money in a hurry?

If the upper part is or is not part the diffuser depends on how air is feeded to that part. We can't see how it's fed. But the original was made by scarbs, he's seen the car in person. Do you have some knowledge on how it's fed?
