Many people knew Dennis from his love of cars and racing and he got to combine some of those two when he started working for Les Cannaday many years ago and was able to attend not only the shows but later some of the races we got into and he was a fantastic auto crosser in his day as well.

Dennis was an excellent photographer and had in the past few years when not able to work anymore create a website devoted to his photograpy and Passion for all things automotive. Since he could no longer work for Classic Datsun due to health constraints, he started doing website work and it was here and through some of the wonderful peple we met over the years putting on the Datsun shows and getting involved with vintage racing he was able to connect with some of his heros and actually was able to take over and redo some very prominent websites for Tony Adamowicz and John Morton as well as the Classic Datsun site and design products and a few others as well, allowing him to get to interact with many other famous racers and photographers who accepted Dennis as one of their own after seeing his great photos of races he attended.

Dennis was truely one of the gentle souls and just a great guy and he is going to be missed. You could always see Dennis really upbeat when he was at any event with cars and great people even though he might be in some pain it never showed just as very recently he was able to attend Coronado when he came back to San Diego for a medical treatment he made sure to come early so he could spend time with his friends at the race and got to spend some time with Adam Carolla and Sandy and Donny as well as Duane and Ron and Mic and Bill. I can only hope his photos of that event have been posted as it was the last time many of us got to see him in his element and smiling.

His wife does not want any cards or flowers but really hopes that we will all celebrate his life and when the time is right we will do just that. Rest easy my friend.

A Diós, pal.

Dennis shared some fine photos with us over the years, and there are many more on his website (see the link posted by Frank).

Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

That is very sad to hear. My condolences to the family.

Sadly, I never had the pleasure of meeting Dennis in person but we did share the odd e-mail conversation.

Greetings Fellow Racers,

The above forward from Les Canaday of Classic Datsun Motorsports, in Vista, Ca. pretty much tells the story of Dennis and his love for people and motorsports, indeed a gentle soul. Those who knew him personally, instantly liked his persona and motorsports knowledge, bench racing began immediately and could go on for hours. I still have not gotten over the fact that he is gone, he joined the Autosport Bulletin Board in 04 and made many great posts over the years. His post on my 68th birthday, May 2, 09 was a Birthday surprise for me. http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?showtopic=108471.

Most of you know Dennis took over webmaster duties from my friend Gary Wheeler , to update my www.a2zracer.com site to newer software for ease of adding new photos and text. Dennis and Gary communicated regularly. Dennis did not want to take credit for any updates and wanted to keep the site as Gary designed it. This was a much bigger job than he anticipated, as none of the old software was compatible with the newer software. Each page had to be totally re-worked into the newer soft ware. He spent hours making it work, unfortunately he was unable to complete the task. He did add some great follow up on my 2008-2009 FA5000 vintage season with the RIAM Gurney Eagle, for this I will be forever grateful for his labor of love. Due to health issues, he missed out on the Legends of Riverside event last March. He paid for a ticket and couldn't make it there. Later I was able to spend a day with him at RIAM, introducing Dennis to everyone and showing him all the great cars there. He was looking forward to the Legends of Riverside II in March. www.legendsofriverside.com

I last spent time with Dennis at the recent SEMA show in Las Vegas. Dennis and Janet, his wife of nearly 40 years, had moved back to NV and he made a special day of renting a electric cart from the show and spent a day with me at our a2z racer gear exhibit. He was not doing or feeling well and made every attempt to soldier on....he was a Viet Nam Vet. He wanted to see everything at the SEMA show, a huge task indeed. Dennis came back with a vintage Sebring photo book "Sebring 12-Hour Race 1970 Photo Archive " by Robert C. Auten. It had some great photos the book , including the Ferrari 312P I drove for NART.

This was the last gift from Dennis and will remain a cherished memory of our friendship. I drove my vintage white 71 240 Z to Vegas so Dennis could see it. He once had a white 240 himself, the CMD prepared 240Z complete with 3 webbers, headers, BRE spook front and rear was sight for him to see. I also brought his electric 3 wheel trike , disassembled in the back of the Z car for him to use at his new LV home. We assembled the trike and I put it into the back of his car's trunk. We didn't have time for lunch, my departing day as he had to prepare for his Doctors appointment . Dennis was diagnosed with pneumonia and was kept in the hospital for treatment . It was touch and go and Dr's induced a coma and attached a ventilator for him. Days later I was able to speak with him, and welcomed him back. I said, "How was your rest " ? He said "not that great, he said airplanes were flying around the room." I said Dennis those were celestial beings, angels in your room watching over you " Later Dennis was diagnosed with a brain anurism and had emergency brain surgery to remove and repair leaking arteries in the brain. He never pulled out of that one.
RIP my friend , you are at peace with the Lord. We in the motorsports community will miss you dearly.

Les Canaday and I were the last to speak with Dennis, he would have liked to stay around a bit longer, we would like to celebrate his life in the near future, per his wife Janet's request. When the time comes we will make an announcement as to when and where that will happen. Tony Adamowicz www.a2zracer.com www.a2zracergear.com
