Christmas has come early clap.gif

The January 2010 copy of "Motor Sport" hit my local newsagent today and stuck on the cover is a CD of the 1958 Grand Prix of Gibraltar.

Some sod stole my vinyl copy some 30 years ago and only now can I hear once again those magical interviews with such superstars as Von Grips; team manager Altbauer, Orgini, Fandango, Foss and Dill.

For me the best moment is the sound of the Schnorcedes as it storms along the 8 yard long main straight.... lol.gif lol.gif lol.gif

I've heard of the recording but never actually heard it so I'm looking forward to doing so.

Hope the publishers see fit to make the offer available to us loyal readers here in the Big PX...

I hope the CD makes it to the Shaky Isles. I remember it well :

M.Orgini : " The cars have lasted 5(?) laps, which surpassed all our expectations"

and "Perhaps, for the next race we will have both cars painted."

There's a tiny note on page 9 of the new "Motor Sport"

"The Grand Prix of Gibraltar comes free with issues in the UK only. frown.gif If you are a reader overseas, the CD is available at a special price on our website" - To misquote from "Casablanca" - "for friends of TNF we have a special price"

Damn. However, I think my brother may have an old LP, now that my interest and memory has been roused from atrophy. He probably has a functioning turntable, too.

All may not be lost. A few years ago I bought a couple Grand Prix of Gibraltar CDs from Green Mountain Motorbooks in Vermont. They had a stock of these as well as other Riverside Records on CD. Granted, that was a while ago, but perhaps they still have some in stock.

I bought a CD a few years back when I was living in PNG. Can't recall whether I picked it up in Oz or points further afield.
One thing I recall was there was no shortage - found several outlets on the www.

Bought it today to read Doug Nye`s obit for dear old Tom Wheatcroft. Pleasantly surprised to get the CD aswell so listened to it in my wagon whilst stuck in traffic on the M1 northbound. Absolutely brilliant! lol.gif

I still don't understand why overseas readers don't get it for free, even if we can buy it at a "special" price.
I think it is unfair and unexplainable.

Jop (from Holland, that's why)

I second that - we pay more and get less - not really understandable.
Probably something to with copyright or something like that ?
Still - not really understandable.
Cannot add sooo much to shipping costs...

Regards,
Ralf - from Germany

Not only CDs as in this example, but other items over the years. Various inserts, extras, photos, etc., etc. are included in the UK copies, but never show up here in the States. I have often wondered about that, especially considering the premium we pay for the magazine.

Damien, are you still out there?

Download an MP3 of it from Amazon.com, or choose the CD, for $9.49 or $14.95 respectively.
