I will definetly come and say hi. I exhibited in 1989, wow what a scary thing to do at 24.. lol. then spend two years paying back the bank. but was a great experience.

No stand but should have work on display by Spedeworth and the National hot Rod Association.

anyone else exhibiting next year???

I'm possibly going on one of the Trade Days. Not sure which one yet.

I'll be going on the Friday. If Damien Hirst is an artist, I'm an Old Master. roflmao.gif

Are the trade days better than public? or just not as busy? and do you need to be trade to get in on those days?

Trade days tend to be quieter and you need to be registered as being in the trade. I'm just a Freelance illustrator and have not had a problem in the past.

You have some really brilliant work on your website alansart, especially the mansell montage clap.gif

I'm planning to do a montage on f3000 in the early 1980's as part of an art project at school but i don't think it will be as good as your mansell version. lol.gif

I've just has a circular from the organisers offering me (as an MSA licenced official) a £5 discount on the price of a General Admission ticket for the Racing Car Show which is thus reduced to £24.
Is it just a sign of age that I think that is still very expensive for what it is?

It is the main reason I haven't been for 8 years. It seems to have lost its way as a Racing Car Show for competitors, the vast majority of whom do their motorsport on a restricted budget. When I first went the initial day was FREE to Competition Licence holders! Admittedly you had to take a day off work but if planned in advance it was a very low-cost day out.

So for the average show goer what is the price of :-

1. Admission

2. Car Park charge

3. A large cup of coffee ( as opposed to a paper thimble )

4. A bacon sandwich ?
alansart
1. Admission - £24

2. Car Park charge - Last time I went it was about £6

3. A large cup of coffee ( as opposed to a paper thimble ) - About £2

4. A bacon sandwich ? Dunno, I took sarnies smile.gif

2/£8 Good grief!

3/£2.80 Take a flask!

4/ Don't even think about it....... ohwell.gif

It is getting worse! Then when you put the cost of getting there - either by rail or by car - it just isn't worth it!

Clearly not an age thing, as those who've replied since my last post are all (relatively) young and seem to agree it's not good value!

I last went in 2005 when it was still free for licence holders...I wasn't overly impressed...

I have received this PM from Chris Sharples of the HSCC, as he knows I'm a big fan of F5000........

"Happy New Year to you!
Don't know if you saw the press release, but this is from the HSCC's website.

Autosport International Racing Car Show 14th - 17th January 2010

In association with Haymarket Publishing - organisers of the Autosport International Racing Car Show, to be held at the NEC from 14th - 17th January 2010, the HSCC will be putting on a display of Historic Formula 5000 cars this year for the first time.

All of the cars on display, have quality pedigree, having been driven in period by many famous drivers including, Tony Brise, Bob Evans, Peter Gethin, Mike Hailwood, Alan Jones, and John Watson, before passing into the hands of the current generation of Historic Competitors who race them today within the HSCC Historic Formula 5000 and Formula 2 Championship, which ran as an MSA Championship for the first time in 2009 40 years after the first UK Championship in 1969.

On Friday 15th January, a number of former drivers will meet for an informal gathering at the Historic Display in Hall 6 on Stand No. 6700, at 11.30. Amongst the 24 drivers who have said they will be in attendance are Derek Bell, Chris Craft, Bob Evans, Willie Green, Keith Holland, Gordon Spice, Mike Walker and Mike Wilds, along with the 2009 Historic Champion Neil Glover.

For full details of the show opening times plus other exhibits, and activities taking place over the 4 days go to www.autosport-international.com where you can also order your advance tickets. "

I am making a point of being there on the Friday, and will go to Ted's stand immediately after the gathering to see who's about from TNF. wave.gif

I had a stand for - I think - four years running, 1991 and 92 certainly. It cost me about three grand, not counting driving up and back from 'Ertfordshire every day, and two or three monster breakfasts at the Watford Gap SS, depending on whether I was mob-handed or not, then lunches in the Hall. It never got me a commission, not even a tiny little one, but I enjoyed it. Compared with last year, my first visit for some years, it seemed friendlier and more relaxed in the early years.

I took the Child Bride last January, and went by train from Luton. Or rather, bought the tickets at Luton, only being informed after I had paid that it involved a coach trim from Luton to Milton Keynes, then train, and the same on the way back. It was a bitterly cold day, and with all the hanging about waiting for connections I wished we had driven up. The highlight was the effect the F1 Simulater had on CB, she staggered out after a lap of some tight little track in a Renault and had to sit down for twenty minutes and sip water. She has a considerable admiration for the drivers now, so it was worth it.

I think you'll find most rail replacement coaches come ready trimmed these days. Still, passed the time I suppose. roflmao.gif

Although unfortunately I'm not going myself this year (I've landed my twin sister's 50th birthday celebration a long time ago), an Aquila CR1 will be on display throughout at the Britcar stand, and Dan Suenson and Alex Frederichsen will be there for a chat with anyone interested.

As this post is timed at 23.51 on Jan 13th, I presume you mean today (Thursday) Twinny? confused.gif

I still have a Friday ticket surplus to requirements (& possibly others for the weekend if anyone is looking for them). cat.gif

As reviews go, that was pretty succinct Phil! Any chance of expanding on that and giving us a line, or maybe two? cat.gif

I must say that latterly, most shows seem to disappoint most people. ohwell.gif

I travelled down with Phil Rainford and met Simon Arron and also crossed the paths of Giraffe, Ted Walker, David Winstanley, Ian Smith, delboy and Ian Titchmarsh. Failed to bump into elannsprint, however - sorry, Pete. Witnessed a good turnout of F5000 drivers on the HSCC display...

Gordon Spice

Chris Craft

Divina Galica (albeit, not an F5000 driver)

The gang assembled - how many can you name?

Meeting for the first time in 30 years, former Withers of Winsford Sana drivers Cyd Williams and David Winstanley

Derek Bell missed the photo call, as did Derek Lawson, but Mike Walker and DB gave delboy some publicity.

Great pictures Alan and Tony.

Great to see those familiar faces.

There were some nice cars in the Coys auction, along with a couple of barn wrecks- first time I've seen an XK120 fitted with a modern motor-cycle tyre.

I went with my girlfriend today.

I was slightly disappointed that the organisers decided not to provide a BSL interpreter for the Autosport Centre Stage interviews. My girlfriend interpreted for me instead.

Also I was hoping I would see plenty of historical memorabilia (particularly with photos and magazines) but there was only one stand that sells old Autosports and Motorsports. I recall there was about three stands this year. Guess the memorabilia sellers had a tough time last year and decided not to attend.

Also I feel that there wasn't enough historical cars for me to see although there are some lovely examples scattered around the Hall.

The Live Action show was good. There was less drivers interviews so it was easier for me (less time trying to lipread and understand what they are saying!) I enjoyed the Formula Palmer Audi cars sliding about in the hall.

At the end of the day, I treated myself some go-karting. After about an hour of queuing, I finally jumped on one and the kart was so tired. The kart kept cutting out and stalling many times. The organisers allowed me to have an other go.

But I was on the circuit with a group of teenagers (one of them had his own go-karting helmet and must be a go-karter racer) I had to stay out of the way as they kept ramming into each other (including me especially as they are using me as a brake into corners!)

The organisers was rather peeved with the boys! Good thing I stayed out of my way.

Good day it was though.

A few bygone snippets...

If one of these doesn't set your pulse racing, there's a fair chance it might have stopped.

A truth, in so many ways.
