That rules out McLaren from signing Vettel then... Unless they do a Ferrari and pay out JB's final year.
Quite a bold move, how do McLaren feel about McLaren not signing a precontract with Vettel already or similar moves?

I think Vettel will move to Ferrari after his time at Red Bull, but I see no need to leave Red Bull at the moment.

Yes, Merc are experts with kers but the problem with Kers isn't the power plant but how it interacts with the breaking and thats Mac technology

If Merc are going then I don't see why they are still splitting McLaren Automotive from the McLaren Group?

This move was planned from the beginning; Merc/McLaren split or not.
They probably spun off McLaren Automotive so that the car business is dissociated from the F1 business (corporate image, scandals, etc.) but also, and most importantly, to raise capital to orchestrate the purchase of the remaining 40%.

Not easy, I suspect. Quite doable, but not as good for development as two similar drivers.
Plus it will increase the political battle for influence within the team.
Everything about Jense --> Mac says 'bad idea'.

Merc just dumped Button, not necessarily "on" Mac.
Looks like Mac has seen an opportunity which is cheaper and definitely more "marketable" than Kimi.
Can't say I'm thrilled about it, but they can put Liuzzi in the car and I will still cheer Mac and boo the rest (including Merc)

JB's management is also wise to this ...
"Goddard insists Button, 29, is not daunted by the prospect of joining McLaren, despite the perception that he will be sharing a garage with the team favourite Lewis Hamilton.
Jenson would have no problems being Lewis' teammate. He would relish the challenge as long
as he could make sure the development of the car suited him," he said."

Button at McLaren will be a huge mistake. He will get destroyed by Hamilton, everyone is gonna be disappointed, but the most disappointed will be McLaren and Button. Should have at least signed Kubica when he was available.

The move doesn't make sense for Button, but maybe he really feels Brawn is treating him like shit. McLaren won't be disappointed, he's definitely better than Heikki, he's a WDC and he's marketable.
Kubica shouldn't have signed with Renault so early, when it's always been obvious that McLaren is looking to replace Heikki.

I don't know - on the days when Lewis can't get the car to oversteer right, or when he's ripping the tyres to shreds around turn 8 at Turkey, it might well be that Jenson picks up the win. Also, we don't know what the car will be like - if it's basically balanced with a gentle bit of understeer, job done for Jense.

Kimi and the Robertsons have overplayed their hand IMO. As things stand, Kubica could be paired at Renault with Raikkonen. There are only 3 good seats potentially available. Brawn, Mclaren and Renault.

Rumour has it Kubica is getting about 3.5 mil from Renault, hard to imagine Raikkenon would be tempted by a similar offer. It's not just the money, the Renault this season looks like a real lemon, doesn't look good for next season at all.

So what real choices does Raikkonen genuinely have? I've been saying for a long while (post Bahrain GP) that something does not look right. On the surface there was absolutely no reason why Mclaren and Kimi could not have agreed a contract weeks ago. Mclaren flaunting Button around their facilities and not even hiding it from the world, appeared IMO to be a message to Raikkonen. But now the talk is of Button and Mclaren having agreed a deal. The next few days will be interesting.

I agree there is a big difference between agreeing a deal and signing a contract. It falls into the same category as a verbal agreement. But what is your take on the situation? As things stand, who do you think will drive the 2nd McLaren seat if your life depended on it?
