lol Rob. I liked the Silver/Red McLaren Livery, way better than that West crap they had. Wouldn't mind seeing them go back to White/Red but that was all because of Marlboro and shit.
The Merc cars will probably have that same sheen as the McLaren cars do, but a few shades of grey lighter.
It's funny, we sent an e-mail first thing this morning to our contacts and asked for confirmation (re the piece written by Martin Brundle) and got no response back apart from an invite to a con-call at 4pm this afternoon when I assume we'll be told officially - I say funny because we'd always been told our discussions were
purely speculative, we knew a split was in the offing but we didn't know it'd be this soon!
This is good and bad in a way in my opinion, good because McLaren get to stand on their own feet in their bid to become the "British Ferrari" (and we get a nice fat pay-cheque from the Project we'll be kicking off) but bad because as a Team we lose the full support of Mercedes; at least we get to retain the engines free for a significant period (and the silver livery which I adore!) but i'm still sad it's finally happened
Like I said in a previous post i'm confident Ron knows what he's doing and will be keeping my fingers crossed that our car is the car to beat next year!
Now, can we
please just get the driver line-up sorted so we can stop all the speculating?

Would you be happy with a Jenson/Lewis line up Bishy?

I presume the Kimi vs Button drive will come down to who will attract the most sponsorship?
Button being, WDC and the number 1 might be an advantage.
This will allow them to have 5 years to produce a decent engine, even if the contract says they may continue past 2015, i dont see them do it. My guess is that they'll have their own engine by that time...

Nov 16 2009, 12:53
Also there's the whole British team British line up etc..
I'd rather have Kimi than Button, but I wouldn't mind either really. Although then the Button mania would be even worse if he went to McLaren

Would you be happy with a Jenson/Lewis line up Bishy?
That's a toughie, for the Team no because an all-British line-up severely restricts your "marketing potential" but if Vodafone (if we are to believe the rumours) are willing to bankroll Jensons move across then so be it, i'll support him albeit grudgingly.
There aren't enough facts out there to allow us guess who the 2nd driver will be but personally I hope it's Kimi because I believe he'll push Lewis more resulting in him becoming an
even better driver; in my humble opinion Jenson is good but at a Massa/Vettel level not at a Lewis/Fred/Kimi level and it would make my day should Kimi be confirmed as our 2nd driver.
I've nothing against Jenson heck I was a fan back in '05/'06 (with the J.B BAR Shirt / Cap & Umbrella to prove it!) but I don't believe he is in the top tier of drivers on the grid right now.

i dont have a single doubt for mclarens future. this is nothing but good for mclaren. they get the engines long enough to develop thier own and now have a freedom of choice on driver.
as for driver lineup, id prefer kimi (much better chance of pushing lewis) but either him or button would be good, i dont think id settle for heidfeld, the guys consistant but i really just dont see him being able to push lewis.

Dont worry about that - Ferrari would have more than enough trouble for Lewis in thwe form of Alonso. Seems like some McLaren fans are gettign ahead of themselves. Deal with Vettel and Alonso before you start dreaming of some silly Lewis glory

hmm i dont agree.
i think your first goal is always to beat your team mate. hes the only real comparison u can have to ur performance in F1 as you can never really compare 2 different cars that well.
i do agree alonso and massa will be a great motivation for lewis but you need a teammate who can drive a car, set it up and compete against you.

What about technical specs for next year car - could Haug take some info or ideas from Mclaren? No doubt something will leak and that's not good. Also they lose Mobil1 and it's one of important component of Mercedes engine. Also question about fuel supplier - it will be one of the main aspect next year. I listen interview with Shell engineer which said they works very hard on this front to help Ferrari with fuel consumption.

I've always thought that those Black and dark Grey McLarens were gorgeous. The Orange is not that great and the present livery is acceptable. But my vote goesw for the black and grey combo - simply awesome.

Mercedes engine will still be filled with Mobil 1 Oil and run on Exxonmobil fuel - its not an issue - its still free of charge.

Wouldn't worry about that at all. Haug might have seen designs but I doubt he has clue about the design concept etc. also I suspect Mobil 1 is Merc's partner so theoretically it will stay or come with the engine package as we will still have Merc engines, which work best with Mobil 1(mind Petrobras are looking to get into F1). Anyone else find it funny Merc think they can will the WCC and WDC with Rosberg and Heidfeld?

The status quo between McLaren and Mercedes was bound to shift at some point. I was worried it would be Mercedes taking over the team, so I regard it as excellent news that the opposite has happened. Might put them in a slightly weaker position financially (for the time being), but rather that than the team becoming Mercedes.
With the livery - looks like they'll be keeping with the current scheme for next season at least, and after that I doubt we'll get orange. Vodafone will be the ones who dictate I'd guess.
Black with red highlights though perhaps?

No, thanks
But it's not only Haug from Merc who works with Mac, isn't it?
Also I read in the last years Merc gave Mac ~200M sponsors bucks and Mobil something about 35M - it was article "100 main sponsors of F1 in 2007" (2008) with actual figures. Contradiction with 30M and 50% share of pilots salary.
