the Williams looks tidy, this looks bold...like it would either be very fast or break down for lack of reliability, design flaw or something...Im thinking its the former

even the biggest Mclaren haters shouldnt expect that this car will somehow turn out to be underdeveloped or so like the 09 car.

Most people expected Mclaren to do very well this year judging by the rate of development and momentum generated last year.
What suprised me most personally was Ferrari's approach that seemed to abandon preparation for this year by trying out stuff on last year's car seeing that there will be no radical rule changes between the 2 years.

If their car does not meed desired results, they are going to have what Mclaren did last year and hopefully benefit from these efforts next year. The problem is the rule changes would be much more pronounced for next year.

I think have had a look at Mclaren's car, Ferrari are sounding a bit worried and are laying the grounds for protest - lol

But then it's only the third car we've seen. And hardly any good images from the Williams! So make it two.

Surprises may still lay ahead. But yes its prettier than the Ferrari.

It is the best looking car compared to other cars using the new aero rules since last year.

Fudge Ferrari seriously. If there is another legal battle over these diffuser stuff then hell will certainly break loose.

As for the livery, there is nothing surprising about this because it was announced weeks ago that the basics of the livery would not change. The fifthdriver, IIRC, posted this. Mclaren is still linked to Mercedes for the time being, and the present livery is much nicer than an orange one - especially so with Vodafone as sponsor.

The 2004 Ferrari didn't look special, but then it was mostly the Bridgestones that made the difference, didn't they? It wasn't until that infamous final Imola test, when Bridgestone brought the 2004 canvas and 2004 compounds together, that the Ferrari was flying over the track on its practically bespoke tyres. I don't think the 2005 Ferrari was much worse, it was just that the tyre situation was turned around completely.

IIRC Ross Brawn did say during an interview that the F2004 was very advanced in the aero department, no doubt the bespoke Bridgestones helped but, that car was a very good and complete "package".

Never said such things, he gave only input/feedback, he had to do it. His feedback is worthy for the team to consider it? It's not a speciality.

There's a suggestion that it's the exhaust from the duct that runs through the shark fin.

yea I dont understand why Ferrari totally abandoned 09 when they could test some 2010 concepts on the 09 car.

in any case, maybe they were right and the new Ferrari is a rocketship...the cars are yet to run on the track, only then can we say for sure who got it wrong or right

They've had variation of that on the car last year as well. It's just a little wing that adds a bit of downforce.

I dunno, sour grapes have their uses. A nice Aceto Balsamico (di Modena) :-)

It's a tight package, from the looks of things. Much shorter than the Ferrari and evidently McLaren designed more towards the Brawn philosophy than the redbull philosophy (which is what Ferrari did). The fact the two best funded teams take seemingly very different approaches is interesting considering regulations have been stable for a year.

Whether it's pretty or not, well personally I hate sharkfins with a passion and wish they were banned already (they are a way bigger eyesore than winglets for me) but ...

QUOTE
Q. You have said there are a number of things on the car that you have never seen on an F1 car before. To save us a bit of trouble, could you list them?

MW: I think that would spoil the fun for you and us! I think there are some fairly obvious ones and some discrete ones. I think during the course of next week, people will spot, speculate, describe and theorise on a number of the things that can be seen – and fortunately there are some that cannot be seen so readily. I would not want to spoil the sport for any of you. I know you enjoy this process.

We are here to try and retain a competitive advantage, we are here to try and provide you with as much of an incite as we can without giving away any competitive advantage. So just as any other team, I believe Ferrari was fairly discreet about its twin diffuser yesterday, and anyone who visits the back of this car will also see we have been slightly discreet.
FlashMaster
Even not being a Mac fan this car looks awesome and fast, especially compared to the Ferrari. Williams use a similar engine cover as the Mac does
BunnyK
I don't like much the McLaren, the fin just doesn't fit in any racing car, but the way they've done it even less, the rest of the car is not bad, but is not one of the best looking cars we've seen, anyway I suppose if it's quick it will look fine as always smile.gif
alg7_munif
If the diffusor is really pusing the limit, and the car is indeed very fast, here is a tip for you guys, don't dominate too much, let others think that they can keep up with you tongue.gif

This looks very much like the RedBull's cooling philosophy:
The exhaust pipes blowing low, near the wishbones. The hot radiator air exhausts through a central channel at the back.

It is rather strange though - neither car has turned a wheel yet but just compare the latest comments on the Ferrari thread to this one.

The others of previous seasons just looked like a normal engine-cover/intake shape, with a FOR SALE sign stuck on.

As posted by Scrabs
Pull rods wont be there on any car even on Redbulls as Pullrods disrupts the airflow to DDD
Also difficult to package everything there

Maybe in 2010 Redbull will bring it back again

Maybe, but pullrod seems to bring in many other advantages, as you can see from the RB5's speed in 2009.
