Jenson Button is an ultra smooth operator.

What an awesome team with Lewis, this is going to be awesome!

So true. LH is too intense to be cool... he just had to tell us that he had a major input in the design process. That said, the car must be good... success has many fathers. Failure is a bastard.

No, more like what Williams had.

How can they get a small back end with a large fuel tank? The back end near the rear wing looks sleek.

190-210 liters, depending on fuel density.

I would be very, very, very surprised if they run these wings in Bahrain. Why they chose these particular ones? probably aesthetics?

I like it.

I like how different it is from the Ferrari too.

I hope there are some more surprise launches with unexpected designs smile.gif

It's not so different as it might seem in first look. Nose is higher and not so rounded like on MP4-24. Same difference from F60 to F10. Mid section is the only place where you can see last year's car influence. Sidepods rather different like with F10. Back of the car totally different form last year's car like in F10.
Basically only bigger difference are sidepods and car height (conceptual differences). F10 is bit shorter, yet bit higher. Higher car nose and optimising car's front aerodynamics for DDD is same aproach Ferrari had with F10.
It is kinda funny to make any assumptions about car's performance based just on the car's look, but it seems that McLaren really put some efforts on this car. I think it will be on the pace.

Well, they did stress how much they have worked on this car. If we are to belive it, it should be a winner, or at least genuine contender.

Petrol weight 1Litre = 0.73722kg (at 60 deg F)
160/0.737 = 217 litres

Thats a large fuel tank. According to some of the figures regarding F1 engine fuel consumption, they estimate Renault can do the longest race of the year on 165 litres. eek.gif Surely these fuel consumption figures are wrong. confused.gif

Mercedes runs Syntium and McLaren runs Mobil, yet they are both works Mercedes backed efforts. confused.gif confused.gif confused.gif

Surely there is a compromise there, and McLaren will be required to use Petronas products in Mobil packaging by Mercedes?

Not a fan of shark fins, but at least the MP4-25 doesn't have the messy add-ons around the radiator inlets like the Ferrari (and most of the cars last year) has. I still don't understand why they didn't ban such warts for this year along with the wheel covers.

The front wing is certainly just a placeholder, and may not even be the one they run in the first test. There's no point in giving away such an important part of your aero concept to the competition so soon. From what I read about the Brawn, the key to their success was the front wing.

Very very impressive. I think this type of live stream has to be the way forward now for the other teams in the future. The teams has already answered most of my questions and as Martin Whitmarsh said we can now spend the next few weeks pouring over the subtle details of this particular abstract expression of beast speed. I thank you. Beautiful. Got that good feeling once again. smile.gif

From Scarbs on F1technical.net:
QUOTE
The MP4-25 follows more of Brawns lead than the expected Red Bull philosophy. Following brawns lead last year with a relatively low nose, even placing their steering rack down inline with the lower wishbones. but then taking a cue from the Williams by having a snow plough under the nose. Although Brawn did have their own take on this device mounted above their splitter. Surprisingly there’s no Newey “V” nose.
The front wing was based on the one seen in testing late last year, with some added fences between the mandatory neutral central section and the four element ‘downforce’ producing outer portions.
The sidepods follow McLaren’s recent practice with inlets mounted high above a deep undercut, this year the inlets are rectangular section. The sidepods then drop sharply exposing the vast curvaceous fuel tank.
McLaren has shrunken the sidepods by raising the exhaust system into its own bulge and exiting high above the gearbox, this area probably also vents some of the hot radiator air, allowing the rear portion of the coke bottle shape to be extra thin. A shark fin has been added so a little Red Bull influence does exist.
