i always thought since tomabaiz left we were lacking in Aero department. Ferrari always had the upper hand for aerodynamics. Mclaren seem to be good at better mechanical grippy cars. But maybe they know this???? and it be solved in the MP425

OOOO Jensons iPhone also has multiple keyboards. I wonder if he has KANA input for his GF.

Emoji is my bet.

I'm quite impressed with this twitter feed from McMerc at the moment. it's what we were hoping to get from USF1 but which hasn't quite materialised. I think there's a stark contrast between the rather stilted and difficult stuff being put out by USF1 and the rather more natural way TheFifthDriver is feeding stuff out.

Fifth Driver is playing a storm in general (even if some of his images are too cryptic).

Ferrari has taken the best of brawn and red bull and stitched it together for 2010. I'd say that is a safe bet since those were the best two cars last year.

Let's see if we take the final iteration of the 25 and evolve it further or incorporate some of the proven solutions!

Can't wait!

Thats the general conception, although a bit oversimplified.

I'm sure both teams realize their weaknesses to each other and work to improve on them.

I cant, either.

Whitmarsh said last year that during the development of the MP4-24, they stopped trying to develop their own ideas and started trying out concepts that they got from the other cars, which is where they started making big gains.

Not sure if they're gonna go down this sort of route again or will try and have faith in their own vision. I'm sure it'll have a lot of similarities to their 2009 car, though, seeing that they thought it important to develop the 2009 car to the end.

I want to take a better look at it in the evening.

To all you fellow McLaren Fans out there - I will get myself a decent bottle of Mumm Cordon Rouge and will watch the stream clad with Union Jack briefs, a McLaren hat, a Lewis Hamilton T Shirt and when the show is over I will be convincingly drunk and will sing quite obscene war songs invoking the defeat of any other team. On the link there's a shadow of what the car might look like. The engine cover is gonna be a little bigger (just like the Ferrari - due to the fuel tank size) and the nose seems to start higher with a kink on the middle, just like the RB5. But still no clues regarding sidepods, front and read wings, suspension assembly, exhaust system and width of the nose.

I pulled that image into Photoshop and adjusted the levels all the way until you could see some of the sidpods, front wing end plate etc and discovered the image is the MP4/24 with Santander photoshoped out of the roll hoop/engine cover

I dunno about everyone else, but I really want to see McLaren beat MercGP this coming season - and every one that follows.

The rivalry with Ferrari is massive, but i reckon we got ourselves a very close second.

From great allies to bitter rivals - the two are not far apart.

McLaren and Mercedes are such bitter rivals, that Whitmarsh is a guest at the Mercedes launch and McLaren is using their engines. I'm not seeing any more bitterness here than between McLaren and Force India.

As for McLarens aero, the MP4/23 was fast out of the box and won right away. Other than that though, Mclaren has been lagging in aero - compared to Ferrari - since the early Newey years (till 2001, say) and with exception of the 2005 car. Let's hope it will be good aero this year.

McLaren have to come up with something truly special

well i cant wait, i exspect raised nose like all, shorter wheelbase then ferrari because that looks really long, an extreme diffuser, and tightly packaged rear. It will be interesting to see if they launch with the last version, of last years frontwings. To see if that is what they built the whole chassis around. Also, will they change frontsuspension, back to the old type, were steering arm and wishbone is combined, looks like williams have followed mclaren,

The fact that Hamilton and Kovalainen were at the front - all the way even - and Raikkonen was quite far down shows that the base of the Mp4/23 wasn't bad at all. A very good car. Hamilton could stay quite close to Raikkonen at Spa in the dry, which indicates the aero was nearly as good as the Ferrari one at that point.

McLaren were getting murdered by Ferrari in early 2008, Australia was a one off, if Ferrari didn't run into problems/mistakes I think they would've taken it like the year before. I found Spa quite surprising, as the gap between Hamilton and Raikkonen was over 5 seconds at one point, I think that's probably due to the McLaren sliding around too much on the softer tyre while running lower downforce while with Raikkonen it was the opposite with a higher downforce set up, Hamilton was quick on the straights but not in the middle sector.

I'm not calling it bad, it's just that Ferrari generally seem better at making base aero concepts, something McLaren need to address. But I am sure they know that better than anybody, well I should think so

actually the error margin is pretty small, as you can scale those photos easily with respect to the size of constants, such as the diameter of the rear wheel.

That's bit overstated I think, Mclaren was competitive with Ferrari from Turkey on (not only Hamilton, but Kovalainen too were very fast at Turkey). I don't think Mclaren got the best out of the car in the races between Australia and Turkey - except for Barcelona maybe - much like Ferrari didn't realise their potential in Melbourne. Ferrari made lots of mistakes during 2008, but then so did Mclaren.
