Got my premier pass via the postman this morning but no other details.

I got my ticket from the normal Silverstone site - only £20 (advance price) for the weekend - and the first 1500 advance tickets get 'premier pass' roving seats in the Woodcote grandstand.

The Silverstone Classic - 17 races celebrating motor racing's greatest from the 30's to the 80's.



Anyone got any further details of who/what is going to be there?

This was a great day out last year. I'm trying to persuade the wife to let me go (or come along with) this year.

I'm particularly interested in seeing the various BRM's, and from the current race entry lists I can see that there should be a P160, P180, P126 and possibly a P261.

Of course, the car I would love to see the most is the V16 (P15 - or was that just the engine?). I have only seen one being demonstrated in Bourne, at the BRM 50th anniversary demonstration, but I would love to see one at speed on a circuit.

I guess that it would be eligible for entry in the Tony Brooks Race for pre 1966 Grand Prix cars, but I'm also guessing that the V16 is prohibitively expensive (and difficult) to run.

There are some great photos from last years event in this thread. The highlight for me was obviously the P201

I'll try to find out if the BRM is running. I've only seen it in action once, and that was at a Silverstone Festival some years ago. I simply couldn't believe the noise - it just seemed to cut straight through me.

The classic is looking to be quite something actually. All grids are now completely full, which means a total of something approaching 500 different cars racing. Should be impressive stuff.

Yes I hope that too, Ted. They have a pretty attractive package available for the clubs, and I'm extremely heartened by the attitude of the team behind the event - many of the same faces from when the Silverstone Festival was at its best.

One thing that won't be at this year's event is the rally stage competition in the evening. Apparently the rally stage is out of use at present. Always used to be a wonderful way to wind up the Saturday evening - I have very fond memories of that from years gone by.

Still, I guess the P160, 180 and sisters will be enough of a fix. BTW I think the last time the rally stage was used was in 2001 for a round of the never-to-be-completed Rallysprint series...

As far as I am concerned the only ommmision from the meeting is a round of the Orwell Supersports Cup - and I can't make Brands the weekend before.

"The Silverstone Classic

Round 6 of the 2005 FIA World Championship
for TGP heads to Silverstone targeting the world’s largest 40 car F1 grid
as part of an astonishing line-up of over 100 Grand Prix race cars!

One of the largest Grand Prix race car paddocks ever assembled is heading for Silverstone on 30 / 31 July for the new-look Silverstone Classic - a spectacular weekend celebration of motorsport from the 1930s to the 1980s.

Over 100 Grand Prix cars from 4 categories (7 races), covering six decades and almost every make of GP car ever raced, will provide a stunning paddock display at The Home of British Motor Racing. Almost every race will be at full capacity, with a 44-car grid guaranteeing fast, competitive racing around Silverstone’s world famous 3.144 mile Historic Grand Prix circuit.

A special start grid of 40 cars has been approved by the FIA for the TGP race, using the historic fast section at Club corner and the current F1 section at Abbey. 32 cars are currently registered for this race with further entries arriving on a daily basis. The TGP organisers are confident of staging one of their largest Championship grids ever.

Competitors from over 10 countries, including Japan, USA and Brazil, will compete for the famous Silverstone International Trophy. The race has attracted special sponsorship from Minichamps, Grand Prix Legends and Cosworth, creating one of the longest ever race titles: “The Silverstone International Trophy race sponsored by Minichamps Grand Prix Legends for Round 6 of the 2005 FIA Thoroughbred Grand Prix World Championship powered by Cosworth” (spare a thought for the commentators!).

In addition to the expected TGP battles between Tyrrell, Ferrari, Williams, Arrows and Minardi, a family duel will also be fought out between American drivers John Delane and his son Ryan. Both John and Ryan will be competing for team Hall & Hall, driving Jackie Stewart’s Tyrrell 001 and a Tyrrell 006 respectively.

The pedigree continues throughout the TGP race with the 6-wheeled Tyrrell P34 of Martin Stretton running alongside Le Mans racer John Bosch’s ex-Gilles Villeneuve Ferrari 312 T3 and the iconic JPS liveried Lotus 72. From the later 1980s period, fans will enjoy seeing the TAG Heuer / Leyland Williams FW07 and 08s, the ex-Mansel/de Angelis Lotus 9, Arrows A3, 4 & 6, Minardi and the Benetton Tyrrell back on the Grand Prix circuit doing what they do best – race.

In addition, 1930s to 1980s Grand Prix cars from Alfa Romeo, Arrows, Bentley, Brabham, BRM, Bugatti, Connaught, Cooper, Ensign, ERA, Ferrari, Hesketh, Lotus, Maserati, Matra, McLaren, Minardi, Surtees, Tyrell, Williams and Wolf will line up to race in the event’s most comprehensive programme of historic and classic motor sport.

17 races will be packed into the huge paddock complex at Silverstone, with two extra paddock areas being created especially for the event. The 500 plus car entry, with more than 700 drivers, is set to be one of the world’s largest and most valuable gatherings of historic motor racing cars. All three paddocks will be open FREE of charge to visitors enabling them to get up close and personal with some of the best loved racing cars in the world.

The extensive two-day timetable of action-packed racing will be complemented by a festival programme of activity for all ages and motoring interests in the centre of the circuit. Certainly seems that every obstacle is being put in my way to not attend this.
