I take it 'CCC assigned' means it's not a factory number, but one allocated by the CCC?

That's right.

We have a validation process a bit like FIA or CAMS where cars without a known chassis # can apply for a CCC Chassis Plate & Number. The idea is to get good descriptions of the car and its history and 'Nail' something on it so that it can be identified easily in the future, and also to 'weed out' replicas.

If the car is approved a number following the Factory ones with a suitable gap is issued.

Over the last 20 years some 40 have been issued. Of these, 4 are period Cooper based specials which have been registered so that they can't be passed off as something else in the future.

I will be there. I have missed a few but started going when I lived in Monterey in 1977. There was NOBODY there that year, just an array of fantastic cars but no hordes yet. Pretty cool. But I don't begrudge Steve Earle the success; it is one of the truly Great Events in our world.

The Monterey 3 litre Formula 1 race will feature a number of cars owned by American collector John Delane. He will drive the Tyrrell 001 still owned by the family and making its USA debut, his son Ryan will hopefully drive 002 and his ex Eiffeland March 721 has been kindly offered to Lorina Mclaughlin to race. She just might be the first lady to race a Formula 1 car in the USA...

A close shave - OK, Sarah Fisher parading in a MP4/17 last year is not really "racing", but Lella Lombardi was very close to participating a US GP:

The Williams team disappeared completely when Lella Lombardi's car also had electrical failure, and her teammate Jacques Laffite mistook visor cleaning fluid for his eyedrops! He turned out to be okay, but was unable to race. Determined to become the first female driver at The Glen, Lombardi tried to get in the Frenchman's car, but she didn't fit.

Lella was a better driver than she received credit for in a pretty bad car most of the time. Supported by Count Gughi Zanon. Im new to this but if there has not been a thread about him there should be. Backer of Lella, Sir Francis, Alboretto, Johansson, Ronnie of course and others I wont be the first to mention here.

I will be driving up on Thursday morning with author, William F. Nolan. (I published the new editions of his Oldfield & Phil Hill books.) Nolan has not been to the Monterey peninsula for a race since Ernie McAfee was killed at Pebble Beach! We have a photo shoot scheduled at Laguna Seca Raceway with Ford’s 999 and Wayne Petersen, a distant, albeit the closest living, relative of Barney Oldfield.

On Friday at the Concorso Italiano (Black Horse golf course, Seaside) we will be at Gary Doyle’s Gallery L'Automobile booth. Gary will have his “King of the Boards” Jimmy Murphy book as well as fine art. I believe Simon Moore will also be at Gary’s booth, and Peter Hearsey will be signing the event poster he created. Peter created the dust jacket painting for the Phil Hill book, so over the weekend I hope to get a book signed by Peter, Phil and Bill Nolan.

Nolan will be at the Wine Country Motor Sports booth on Saturday morning at Laguna Seca. Sunday we will be at Pebble Beach, then back to Laguna Seca.

hey guys! things are heating up on the monterey peninsula! today[tuesday] i stopped by mission san juan batistia at lunch to check out the "small" "west coast" bugatti rally...counted 52 cars running!

including;
many t-37-37a's
t-35's..a b c..and the prototype lyon 35
the replica t-45[pretty impressing]
a 57 atlantic...maybe leno's or koux'
a bunch of t-57's..normal,s,and sc jean bugatti coachwork
4 brecias[1 t-22,2 t13...one with twin mags mounted in the dash]
a cool t-46 cabrio
a knockout t-43 with custom coachwork
a gp with an anzani twincam...sound australian?
a few welcome anomolies..a totally cool maser cgs2000 drophead..and an aero morgan coupe!

due to personal issues[86 yo mom with deep venous thrombus PLUS COPD..i couldn't make the ralley...so i will practice fri and race sat as circumstances allow

the count for the gp race hovers around 50++ cars on the grid...

looks good for us bangers up the back hill and shoots...the wee ones can be ninble in the turns...but with the presence of some t-51's and the ocassional t-59..it should be a hoot!


is there any thing else happeningi don't have time to see...

Blame Lyndon Duckett...

He fitted this before WW2 and planned to instal a Wade supercharger, this being acquired for the purpose.

The car competed regularly, but never got the blower. It finished up in Bob King's hands at some time, probably in the sixties, and in the late nineties he finally fitted a supercharger, a Cozette off a Brescia.

At the time he had a big argument with the CAMS about whether or not he should do this, and he stated that one of his main reasons for fitting the supercharger was to avoid having to retain the bulge on the side of the engine compartment.

Okay, just got back from Sunday at Laguna Seca and have 330+ images to post-process, but I thought I'd post two just to start. Had a great day btw, but Paula and I are a little sunburnt.

Oh and I proudly wore badge #39 and stared and stared at chests all day, but didn't see another like it - badge that is - hmmm probably chest as well. Unfortunately, the pitcrew member pictured above didn't turn around before my wife dragged me away, so I couldn't see if she wore a badge or not.
